That is high for labor. But may be this is the going rate for Boston. Here, the usual rate for labor is around $70/hour. for specialized labor which this could be, it can go up to $100/hour. $1,800 for labor means 18 hours of work. This probably will take a couple of hours + they usually charge $200 for hauling away the old heater.

It’s a 75 gallon gas heater. The heater itself is about $1,200. The rest is labor.

That sounds so painful. I know exactly how you feel. I am sorry my friend!

But $3K and $6K are insane prices. How big is the water heater? I assume it is gas? This should not cost so much to replace! Or may be San Diego has cheaper labor!

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says that the United States, Israel and Europe are waging a “full-fledged war” against his country.
“In my opinion, we are in a full-fledged war with America, Israel and Europe. They do not want our country to stand on its feet,” Pezeshkian told the official site of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in an interview on Saturday.
The president’s remarks come ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s meeting on Monday with US President Donald Trump. They also come six months after Israel and the US launched strikes on Iran, and after France, Germany and the United Kingdom reimposed United Nations sanctions on Iran in September over its nuclear programme.
“Our dear military forces are doing their jobs with strength, and now, in terms of equipment and manpower, despite all the problems we have, they are stronger than when they [Israel and the US] attacked,” Pezeshkian said.
“So, if they want to attack, they will naturally face a more decisive response.”
“This war is worse than Iraq’s war against us. If one understands it well, this war is far more complex and difficult than that war,” Pezeshkian said, referring to the 1980-1988 conflict between the neighbouring countries in which thousands were killed.
The US and its allies accuse Iran of seeking to acquire nuclear weapons, a claim Tehran has repeatedly denied.
Israel and Iran engaged in a 12-day war in June, triggered by an unprecedented Israeli attack on Iranian military and nuclear sites, as well as civilian areas.
The strikes caused more than 1,000 casualties, according to Iranian authorities.
The US later joined the Israeli operation, bombing three Iranian nuclear sites.
Washington’s involvement brought a halt to negotiations with Tehran, which began in April, over its nuclear programme.
Since returning to the White House in January, US President Donald Trump has revived his so-called “maximum pressure” policy against Iran, initiated during his first term.
That has included additional sanctions designed to economically cripple the country and dry up its oil revenues from sales on the global market.
According to recent reports, when Netanyahu visits Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida this weekend, he will be pushing for more military actions against Iran, this time focusing on Tehran’s missile programme.

The situation in Iran is getting fully out of control! Basic stuff has doubled since last March when I was there and is predicted to double again in the next 3-6 months. Average middle class individuals are becoming increasingly desperate and poor. People with decent jobs are cutting back. No more trips to Turkey or anywhere they could travel to. Dinner out is becoming a luxury. In the meantime, the top 1% are having a blast!

Believe it or not still no hot water! Checked in to a hotel for two days as it was getting pretty annoying. The insurance company looked at 3 quotes and decided $1,300 is the max they would pay! The policy clearly says “any appliances needing replacement would be covered up to 3,000/year”! I suppose “up to” is the trick. Best quote I got was $3,500! One guy told me he can fix it right away for $6,000! I’m cheap so I stick with the lower price but 3 days later! Next time I will just pay the higher price and avoid all the hassle

The $ situation is crazy in Iran. It will make everything that much more expensive. Housing always lags the $ but surely it will go up. People will become poorer and poorer. Government in fear of revolt will over the country for sale to China. The inevitable result is that Iran will become a solid ally of China and a staunch US enemy. This has been the case with Iran running to Russia for the past 50 years. It is unfathomable that US still continues this policy. This is clearly against USA's national and global interests!

My experience with appliance warranty is similar to Maghsoud. First of all you have to understand that unlike other insurance policies like health care, the model is not for everyone to pay so that those who need it get the benefits-so most policies are profitable for the company but not all. Instead the model is for each individual policy to be profitable for them. So, if you have more than one case a year, the response and coverage becomes systematically more difficult to get. They will make sure that they do not pay out more than what you have given them in premiums. In the process they will make it more expensive for you so you do not call in more cases.

I had a water heater leak just like Zinsky. I had priced it out to be $700 for the heater and $250 for the installation. The plumber was ready to do it the day before Christmas. But figured since I have insurance it will be free. It took a week before my heater was replaced. He charged $1099 for the same heater. Then another $1000 for his labor. I am sure he actually charges less from the insurance company but at least this is what he told me. Of the $2,100, insurance paid $1,100 and I was stuck with the remaining $1,000.

A month later the over was over heating. I called in the case. They brought someone in who said the thermostat was old and needed to be replaced but could not find it. So, their policy says that the oven would have to be replaced. Instead they brought in a second repair company which said the same thing. Then they brought in a third which clearly was tipped what to say. To test the oven he left the door open. And then said over works fine. I asked why he left the door open. He said it makes no difference and left! So, the case was dismissed. This whole episode dragged on three months during which I had to pay the premium. I then canceled the policy and have never looked back. Have saved so much money and aggravation. This year, I replaced my air conditioning unit which was a big expense and am still financially ahead. The unit was replaced on the day I called the company. No hassle.

$$$ reaching 140k and predicted to reach over 150k before the end of the year (2025-2026). It is also predicted that it could reach as high as 200k by Newruz. Prices are going through the roof almost daily. Fear of war, high inflation and overall political instability is causing severe damage to the population.

Netanyahu pushes for Iran conflict, clashing with Trump’s priorities
The US president’s base opposes intervention in Iran while pro-Israel donors and hawks push for heightened US involvement.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been warning of a grave Iranian threat to Israel and the world for more than 30 years.
United States President Donald Trump heeded those warnings in June and bombed Tehran’s nuclear facilities. But it appears that Netanyahu is still not satisfied and will be pushing for more military actions against Iran when he returns to the US on Sunday to visit Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

The Israeli army says an operative with the external arm of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is among several people killed in strikes it has carried out across Lebanon in another breach of its ceasefire with Hezbollah.
Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) said the drone strike on Thursday hit a vehicle on the Hosh al-Sayyed Ali road in the Hermel district, killing two people.

Maghsoud,
I agree! Insurance is a scam. The only way one would truly benefit from it is the extreme cases. And because of insurance, everything is more expensive. Because of insurance, the repair shops over quote one.
After the first guy gave me a quote knowing I have insurance, I called couple of other guys and didn’t mention insurance. Their quote was almost half of the 1st guy!

I didn’t have one until few months back. Couple of people told me it’s a good idea with the older homes. This is the first time I used it and so far, I’m not crazy about it. Of course they are paying 1/3 of the replacement parts but the game one has to play is pretty annoying.

All insurance is a scam but home appliance insurance is the worst. I had it twice. Once it came with the house we bought and never used it. The second time I paid for it and ended up paying for the repairs more than if I had not insurance. After that I just put some money aside that I would have given the insurance and when something breaks I call directly a repairman and everything is fixed within a day. Never again with appliance insurance.

Faramarz,
I’m going through the same. Home appliance insurance company (separate from the actual home insurance) took their sweet time to approve the repair/replacement. Of course they only pay 1/3 of the cost! It could have been fixed yesterday but due to their delay, the plumber left. If I knew they only pay as much as they are, I would just fix it and pay for it myself.
They are not coming today, of course, and MAYBE tomorrow. No weekends (WTF) and next possibility is Monday.
