Most of my own family back home are pro Shah. They actually want to go back to 50 years ago. Hard to look at Iran today and compare it to 50 years ago. I totally understand why so many believe we can go back and everything will be fine. On the other hand, the world has changed drastically in the past 50 years. U.S. is nothing similar to 50 years ago even though the system has not changed.
Either way, I will support the people of Iran. Let them decide…

I agree with you guys. Robbing a country from the opportunity to chose its own destiny is the worst thing one nation can do to another. Just in our own country we have seen the results going sour at every corner.

I totally agree with Zinsky that choosing the next leader/government should exclusively be done by people inside Iran. We on the outside should not have a role. We have chosen to separate our paths.

The reality in Iran is that a small percentage of people in Iran is supporting RPG. This group splits into two subgroups, one is the group who actually considers him as a qualified candidate based on his father and history of over 50 years ago. The second subgroup wants him not because they think he is qualified but because there rae no alternatives. This is a terrible reason to ask for the next leader, IMO.

Then there are two more noteworthy groups. One is the group of people who support IRI. The last group is the group of people who want a change but do not have any idea who should lead, are hopeless, and are just trying to survive. this last group is by far the largest percentage. USA/Israel is trying to sway this group into supporting RPG and their main tool is economic hardship. In my opinion though, if (big if) allowed a great leader will emerge from this group for the future of the country which is why this very large group is considered the most dangerous by all sides. The goal by all sides is to divide and conquer this group.

I’ve said it before and say it again, I don’t have a preference on who would lead Iran if/when this regime falls apart. I believe it has to be the people inside Iran to determine that.
One thing for sure. We can’t have one person with all the power. Either a king or a supreme leader, it leads to dictatorship. Of course here in U.S., we are moving towards one as well…

Exactly my point! Don’t just go with whomever presented to you! Don’t go with the mentality that anything is better than this. Be smart and don’t give anyone the full power. Of course it’s easier said than done but at least we have gone through it 46 years ago. Maybe we learned something in the process

Zinsky what mistake are you talking about? following the west to do a revolution supporting a criminal and getting rid of a shah that was becoming independent? Wouldn't following reza jighil be repeating that same mistake?

I know this has been said before, multiple times, but these demonstrates might be the one that will create a change. When bazaar gets involved, things get more complex.
Question remains whether the West will let this grow organically or they will jump in and try to control the narrative. West could help and they should but unfortunately, the type of help needed and what might come are not the same.
Pahlavi seems to be the one who the west is looking to lead. Many in Iran are also looking for him to be the leader but of course there are others who want someone/something different. I can only hope that Iranians in Iran have learned from the last revolution and don’t make the same mistakes of the past.

Protests began on Sunday when the bazaari (merchant class) in Tehran closed their shops and took to the streets after Iran’s economic crisis deepened, with $1 reaching 1.4 million rials market value (42,000 rials official value).
As the protests spreading across Iran stretch into their third day, one image from the demonstrations has gone viral across social media.
It shows a brave protester sitting down on the street in front of armed security forces riding motorcycles. The photo has drawn parallels to the infamous ‘Tank Man’ photo from Beijing’s Tiananmen Square.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called on his government to listen to protesters’ “legitimate demands” and pledged to protect their livelihoods following two days of demonstrations in Tehran against the plummeting national currency and dire economic conditions.
In comments on social media that were also reported by the government’s IRNA news agency on Tuesday, Pezeshkian acknowledged the concerns of the protesters, who have closed their shops and chanted in the streets in demonstrations in the capital since Sunday.

Trump’s peace plans are like the firefighters who start a fire and rush to put it out to get credit for ending the fire!!!
He keeps talking about peace in Middle East and how he brought it to the region! First of all, there are people dying everyday in Gaza and Westbank. 2nd, there was no actual war in Iran until he gave Yaboo the green light to attack. Even after all that, he decided to use their most advanced, non nuclear, weapons to “end the war they started”!
Since the nuclear issue seems to be delayed after the bombing, Yaboo is now talking about rockets Iran has and building more of them. Also, Yaboo is now saying Iran is preparing to launch chemical and biological weapons!
After 30 years of warning that Iran is weeks, maybe months, away from building nuclear weapons, it seems a chance of threat is needed…

Iran’s biggest enemy is her own fledgling economy, if the West is a bit patient this might turn out to be the undoing of Islamic Republic

I think Trump said all those things publicly to calm Yaboo down, and doubt has any real intention of military action against Iran.

He learned quickly Iran is not playing anymore and will retaliate in the form of hitting neighbor allies and even Israel and he was told this time it will be for real too.  I think behind the scenes he was told by Putin, Iran has the right to a so called peaceful nuclear program and he kinda agreed at least whatever that means in Trump’s language

This means YAboo was unsuccessful. We'll see what is next in this chapter.

Economy is a related but separate chapter.
