Comments: It’s always been a heated discussion on the role of the west, especially USA, in Iranian affairs. Some want none and others want all, including military action. I’ve been somewhere in the middle. I don’t want war with Iran even if it means removing the regime. War will create a kind of vacuum that brings worst elements in the future for the country. We have seen it in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, among others. On the other hand, I don’t mind seeing the west putting more pressure on the regime. Unfortunately, sanctions are not the solution. With the world divided as is, Iran can always find a way to deal with enemies of their enemies. West needs to find a way to put pressure on the regime directly. I’m not smart enough to know how but it is possible.

Comments: Amount of desperation is unbelievable. As I said before, west should open its doors to anyone who wants to leave Iran and close it to anyone associated with the regime. Pipe dream but fun to think about.

Employees at Frankfurt airport discovered a male body on Thursday morning on a plane that had arrived from the Iranian capital during a routine maintenance check at 5:30 a.m. local time, Frankfurt police said in a statement. They added that an oxygen can with a mask was found next to the lifeless body.

Comments: That is strange. There is so much BS on both sides that it is hard to decode what is the case. I read in several places that Lufthansa had stopped flying. But if hey are still selling tickets, that is the fact! Definitely this is the most serious movement. A woman on CNN called it a counterrevolution. This is the first time that I hear the term, but may be the most descriptive.
Comments: I can’t tell if this movement becomes a full fledged revolution that removes IRI but I can tell you that it is one of the most serious one I have seen in the past 40 years. I don’t see how the government can force the youth to go back to what it was. The problem is that hejab is critical to both sides.
Comments: I don’t know about flight cancellations. If you search for tickets to Tehran right now, you can see which airlines fly there. So far Turkish, Emarat and Qatar are all there. I also see Austrian and Lufthansa. I searched mid December just for fun. Cheapest one seems to be Turkish. They also have decent time frames.

Comments: Wise choice, Shahryar jAn. If the airport closes for any reason, sabotage, strike, etc. travelers are stuck in definitely. I know of several friends who had planned to go during Christmas but have now canceled their trips.
Comments: Faramarz, I also heard that Lufthansa and Austrian have suspended their flights to Iran; it may be temporary, but time will tell. My cousin who was scheduled to travel home from US, has cancelled her trip, at least for now.
Comments: Zinsky, lots of good information; thanks. I agree that revolution takes a long time, but do you thin this current effort will lead to one? Although there are a lot of signs indicating that, I am not so sure. This government may be very ideological and old fashioned in their beliefs, but they are not stupid. I see this eventually going away with Government making some concessions but saving face at the same time. In the US (~10 years ago), similar thing happened with the 1% protests, and they were crushed as the Winter came, and that was all she wrote. Agreed this is not quite similar, but the results will most likely be. |
