Comments: Some of the crowds appeared to be the largest since the protests began more than five weeks ago over the death of the 22-year-old Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini while in police custody. Amini had been arrested by the “morality police” for not wearing a headscarf. Maj Gen Hossein Salami, the IRGC’s commander-in-chief, had warned on Saturday that that would be the last day of “riots”. The largest gathering was at the central Tehran branch of Islamic Azad University, but other protests occurred on the university’s North Tehran campus. Security forces responded by using teargas and firing pellet guns. Students at Qazvin International University chanted the slogan: “From Zahedan to Shiraz, I sacrifice my life for Iran.” At Mazandaran University, the crowds chanted: “If we do not stand together, we are killed one by one.” At some universities, students had dismantled partition walls in canteens put there to separate men and women.

Students continued to protest in large numbers at some of the country's main universities despite a warning from the head of the country's Revolutionary Guard Hossein Salami that Saturday was to be the last day of protest. In a video obtained by CNN via the pro-reform activist outlet Iran Wire, two uniformed officers can be seen in what appears to be an attempt to arrest a protester. The video is said to be recorded at Sanandaj Technical College in northwestern Iran.

Comments: IRGC is more known as a suppressive state apparatus at home through its Basij force, and a military instrument of Iran’s expansion in the region through its Quds force. But its construction wing, Khatam al-Anbia, is also Iran's largest contractor in industrial and development projects across the region. By trying to bankrupt the IRGC, America is at once dislodging a major competitor in the region with huge potential profits in the additional sale of oil and hundreds of billions of dollars of lucrative reconstruction deals for US firms in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Afghanistan. The measures would not deter the IRGC, which would switch to clandestine methods energising the black market in the sale of oil and arms. It would also work in far closer cooperation with China and Russia setting up a new oil bloc. China, Turkey and India which buy the bulk of Iran’s oil have already said they would ignore US restrictions. Saudi Arabia has admitted that China has not asked for any more oil. China believes Iran’s discounted oil is too cheap to pass. The US economic war is taking its toll not on the IRGC but on the livelihoods of the people of Iran with an IMF trajectory of a six percent shrinkage in Iran’s economy and projected price rises of 37.2 percent. While there is little disagreement over the need to curb the power of IRGC, piling pressure on Iran’s economy and on people’s livelihoods through unilateral action of a foreign power is totally unacceptable.

Comments: It’s been proven that the 1979 revolution was organized and executed by the west. The question is now the west is ready for another change or not! Had this regime outlasted its usefulness or still needed to balance the power in Middle East? I wouldn’t be surprised to see a name pops up in the next few months as a leader who will push this movement to full blown revolution. I certainly hope the youth in Iran are smarter than the generations before them and choose the future that is brighter than the past 40+ years. Foreign policy of the west is as complicated as we can imagine. It’s not always logical or make sense to ordinary people. The goal is never to help people in our homeland. It can however be a tool for our youth to move in the right direction. We need smart people in Iran to take the opportunity and don’t be fooled like the last time. I’m hopeful that this generation is more in tuned with the world around them. That is all I can hope for.

I’m not sure how the hejab issue going to be resolved. I don’t know if this regime can reinforce it with current atmosphere but again, there are not normal or logical people in charge.

Comments: Zinsky jAn. IMHO, this time there is no way back. The genie is out of the bottle and IRI cannot do anything right. They have lied, stole and killed so much in day light that a very large section of the population does not subscribe to them. Even some of them who are carrying the atrocities on their behalf. Their "supporters" are in these groups in order of their size: 1. Ultra religious section This population have and will start questioning the "un-islamic" behavior as more videos of the atrocities come out or they get a taste of their crimes to some family member. 2. Armed force personnel Regular army - They are most removed from IRI with rank and file from less religious background. They are sour on being seen by IRI as a second class force with IRGC watching over them. IRGC - Aside from the remaining Sardars and officers most don't have much to lose in case of revolution. Basij - The ones on the street are just mercenaries (for money like the trolls on this page); not there for ideology. With some killed by crowds, the desertion will start. 3. The officials of the regime who benefit financially or have the blood stains on their hand. Their exodus has already started by sending their families out ahead. As you had alluded before, it will not happen over night. It will take a long time with IRI killing more people and people getting more angry and daring which is the trend already. It was the same for 1979 revolution. I can personally tell you from my experience. In summer of 1977 (just before I came to US), I saw the first spark. We lived in Niroo Havaei which then was the most eastern limit of Tehran. There was an area outside of city limit with roads and infrastructure being planned for regime insiders to build. Ordinary people bought the land around it and started building their own homes on these parcels. One they Shahrdari and police showed up with bulldozers and ordered them out of the houses so they can demolish them. They refused and the police order the start of destruction. A couple of people died under the wreckage. People burned the police cars and bulldozers and attacked the Shahrdari building in Niroo Havaei along with many more poiice and government cars. At the time, I was not aware of what was happening and was riding my bike towards the Nirro Havaei BLVD a couple of block from the action and see this soldier swing his baton running towards me. I turned around and scaped. Shah fired the then mayor (don't remember his name) and installed Amoozgar (if my memory serves me well). After that it was one event after the other with more bloodshed. You cannot wash blood with more blood! It will catch up with these criminals and it has accelerated. Be omide piroozie mardom va Irani azad!

Iran has been gripped by protests since the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman, in the custody of the morality police last month, posing one of the boldest challenges to the clerical leadership since the 1979 revolution. “Do not come to the streets. Today is the last day of riots,” commander, Hossein Salami, said in some of the toughest language used in the crisis, which Iran’s clerical leadership blames on its foreign enemies, including Israel and the US.

A popular national idol arrested in Saqqez, a city of 131,000 inhabitants which is also the place where the story linked to Masha took place, beaten and killed after being arrested in Tehran for wearing the hijab in a manner deemed “inappropriate” by the police . On the occasion of the 40th day after the death of the girl, according to what was reported overseas, Daei was in a hotel in the city and from there led away under arrest. In recent weeks, the attacker’s passport had also been withdrawn after talking about violence and repression by the government.
