Comments: The nicest thing about people telling their stories is that I feel less isolated. Their stories are in many ways my story. It’s good to tell one’s life stories without someone else commenting on it or questioning it. Just read it and try to understand it. We all know what we have been through our lives. Good or bad, we know it best. Hopefully we learned something. Last thing I want to hear is that I should have done it differently.

I was not expecting such a diverse range of experiences. But surely, the political events in Iran propelled us all in all sorts of directions. The other side of this is that there has been all these accusations of impersonating. But I feel that I can trust those who post here because I know their human faces in more detail. Comments: I would like to take some credit since many have opened up and gave us detailed/private info about their lives. I truly appreciate and enjoy reading about everyone’s life stories. The revolution changed so many lives. Can’t complain (I usually do) but I personally would have not left Iran if it wasn’t for the revolution, not even to study abroad. I would possibly travel but would not leave Iran for any extended period. I was forced to leave and my life changed drastically afterwards. No regrets just missing so many moments I could have had with my family.
Comments: Might as well to get into the retirement discussion since it seems to be such a hot topic for many. I am a telecommunication engineer. After Farid, I may be the youngest here. I was 14 when the revolution happened and then headed this way years after it. I do not have a PhD and only MS but I have done it all since I arrived here, including working for corporations, starting my own company, watching it go under, starting over, and now working for an Indian company that does a lot of business all over the world. As part of this job, for many years, I traveled to China quite a number of years and lived there for a total of two years over a span of 10 years. I stayed with this company for one reason only, and that is that I can work remote. My wife has some health issues which requires me to work from home! In terms of retirement, I must say that I am sentenced to work until I am 70 because, if I retire now, my wife will lose her insurance which is important given her health issues. I need to work until she is 65 and can qualify for Medicare. This means that I have to work until I am 70. Lack of population-wide healthcare in this country is a huge issue for me and my family. And is the one issue that drives everything for us. Fred from Australia, I am curious how the healthcare system works there. Is it like America where healthcare is offered through your job or does everyone qualify for it because they are in Australia. I ask because I had an opportunity to migrate to Australia but preferred the USA. I may come to regret that!

Comments: Hi Farid. Coming to Australia was the best gift my father gave to me and hence my half Iranian kids and quarter Iranian grandkids. He sacrificed his profession from a job in Tehran to a farmer in a backward village in Australia. Both him and my mother lost all their contacts with Iranian and so the rest of us till ten years later when I met another student from Afghanistan in university. While living in Australia was reasonably isolated and not that easy as locals did not like darker skin people much, we had freedom of choice in politics and access to free education in university level. Australia was backward then, but has gone forward a lot since as the number of immigrants from non-English speaking countries has increased. In here if you have a job, you contribute towards your retirement at various ages. In my case was 65years but for my kids could be as high as 70. When the amount of your superannuation reaches a fixed lower number, you may receive pension from government depending on your assets. That could be as much as $550 or more per week, plus health card and number of age pension discount in things like car registration, electricity, home rates etc. Yes, it was hard to leave your culture and lifestyle when you are young, but I will never change Australia for anywhere else in the world for its largeness, beauty, freedom, its reasonable law and order and away from the other social issues existing in Europe and USA.
