Comments: Wow, And I thought I knew you well Zinsky! I always thought you worked for a telecom company. But it sounds like you did consulting for various companies? I think I knew that your father was a general. But cannot be sure. I vaguely remember something you shared before. Great life stories guys. Love it. It puts a person behind the handle. It also separates those of you who are genuinely contributing here. Like I said before, I strongly recommend lol and Observer who shared their life story to chose a different handle.
Comments: I got to say, I was surprised to hear from so many dostan. I don’t know many of you guys personally but feel more comfortable sharing my experiences here. I might have already shared it with some but here is a short version of my life story. My father was a general in Shah’s army. He was not the type who cared too much for power and titles so he refused couple of offers given to him to run part of the military in Tehran. Instead, he chose a desk job and due to that was only jailed few months, lost his job and pension and couldn’t find a decent job after revolution. I had my problems with the system back home and due to that had to leave or end up in trouble. I’ve been in America since 85, married in college and have two great daughters. Studied electrical engineering and did a lot of RF/telecommunications engineering consulting jobs. Traveled a lot for work and I mean moving from city to city and state to state for 7-10 years. I couldn’t go back home for nearly 14 years after I left due to my situation. Missed watching my sister grow up and couldn’t help my father during his last few years with us. I’ve had a good life. I wish I could spend more time with my family when they needed me.

Comments: Faramarz I did not fly. I was part of kaadr daftari. Played a lot of football with Homa players back in the day. I prefer not to use my old handle because it will come with a lot of baggage that I prefer to leave behind. I have seen all the arguments and even posted on Tourang's site for a short time. For a while I considered posting under my name Massoud, but I think there are at least two of those. Or may be they are the same people. One was the guy who used to post on Tourang's site and the other is the one who posts here and is quite nasty some times. So, I do not want to be mixed up with those two. I'll think about a new handle. Not as easy as you think!

Comments: Okay, I might as well go next. First, to be clear, I am one of at least three lols here. One may be Rahim who has more favorable opinion of IRI. The other I think is the person who sometimes posts under different names. He is quite the opposite. I am neither of those two. I have been reading this page for at least the past 15 years and used to actively post with a different handle. I now post every once in a while. But I know all the old timers on this and the other site.
Anyway, I have retired twice. Once in Iran from Homa. I used to work for Homa before the revolution and some years after the revolution. I retired from that and moved to the USA through the visa lottery. I then cofounded a restaurant chain here and worked to expand it for some years. The Chain is still successful with several dozen branches. But after it became successful and we became incorporated the new leadership CEO, etc. slowly pushed us out and so, I found it easier to cash out and retire again. My wife owns a hair salon through which we make ends meet. Our biggest challenge is healthcare. I am 66 and so, am covered by medicare but for about a decade, I did not qualify and so had to pay quite a lot out of pocket for health insurance. My parents have passed away, but my wife's are here with us. Her mom has alzheimer and father had intestinal ulcer that required operation. taking care of them in this healthcare system is very difficult. I travel back to Iran twice a year and only pay $127 round trip on standby (because of my work with Homa). This is one of the nice benefits of retirement that still works. I am making plans to move back to Iran as soon as the wife is done with the hair solon. I am done with the american dream. Seen it, done that. I am originally from Fars and would love to go back to a quiet village for my real retirement. cheers

Comments: Past 12 months have been strange for German sports. German football team eliminated at the group stage in the WC. German basketball team making it to the final of the WC by beating the mighty USA. And at the moment their football team is losing again(1-2) to Japan!
Comments: Affordable and reliable health insurance is obviously a major concern for some Americans. Obamacare addressed some of it but was cut into pieces so the lobbies could let it pass. Pre existing, kids under 26, free yearly check up and few others were great additions to the previous insurance system. Not giving people the choice of public option (Medicare) was not. Another issue I see is the income level they use to subsidize the insurance premiums. It truly needs to adjust based on inflation, cost of living and the state/cities population lives. There are areas in America that making $150K/year for a family of four should be considered low income. Other places $75K might just do it. For a single person who turns 27, has a decent income, student loans, rent/mortgage, food, clothing, and other expenses, paying $800/month to get decent insurance is not doable. Most either just go without it or get the lowest type of insurance that covers just about nothing.

Comments: Faramarz, I don’t know if this is true for all immigrants but have seen it enough among Iranians to make the following statement. Iranian immigrants seem to have a weight on their shoulders to prove they are doing better than the rest. There is an unhealthy competition between them. That has caused them to work extra hard and they have achieved a lot. They are some of the best educated, wealthy group of immigrants in America and around the world. On the other hand, their competition, comparison and conflict stopped them from forming a united movement to represent Iran and Iranians. I give you the example of our small group finding each other some 20+ years ago. We were united in the love of football and Iranians around the world but soon after we became divided, split into groups and now we have such contempt that we can’t even agree on simple stuff.
