Comments: Bottom line! Live and let live. We can discuss what we like/dislike but that should be it. Just because I like something and someone else doesn’t, it shouldn’t be an argument about it.
Comments: Faramarz, I think having enough (whatever that means) could solve many problems. What one can’t buy is good friends and family (community). Most of my family members back home are upper middle class (Iranian standard). What it means is that they can afford to avoid many problems others might have. They are mostly living in apartment complexes with a family who are in charge of security, maintenance and such. They do most of the shopping for them (grocery and stuff like that). They avoid bread lines in the morning and have fresh bread every morning!!! They have large parties in the party room of the complex without any issues. Alcohol gets delivered in large quantities. Money buys a lot of conveniences but piece of mind is not for sale, not Iran or here. Overall, I agree that it is not an easy comparison. Depending on the needs/wants of individual, it might change. As we both agree, there is no paradise. It all depends on you and I to decide what works for each one of us. Also, this is for retirement. I wouldn’t recommend a young person to go to Iran and try to work and build a life. That is not a good idea under the circumstances.
Comments: :) :) Hamvatan's post did actually opened a new perspective on Home Depot. I am sorry guys, in spite of all your heroic predictions, I have not gotten stuck in the gym or barber shop! ![]() Just really long days. ![]() Zinsky jAn, we may be saying the same thing. All those questions and scenarios that I listed are constant struggles for me. The challenge is that often one does not recognize the true answers to those questions, or one's values changes in time, and so, later they discover that they would have been better off in one place versus other. I used to think that with the money that I earn here, I can buy all that I need. But now I realize that this is just not true. There are things that this society just does not offer. On the other hand, imagine yourself living in Iran. Immediately you will run into a whole lot of daily issues. Lines, expense (with iranian income), uncertainty, disorganization, ... But the question that I have struggled with is that money can solve all of those in Iran. And you would get those things that money cannot buy here. I guess what I am saying is that I still do not know which is better, in spite of all the societal issues there. I definitely would have a hard time saying that it is categorically worse there or better here.

Comments: Looking at the medal table from the Asian Games I noticed that the Saudis have not won any medals yet! I am wondering why they spent so much money bringing football stars in their football league and not investing on other sports? There must be some rational reason behind it, I suppose!

Comments: I think what I’m saying is that there are no perfect places. There are good and bad everywhere. It comes down to individual preferences. The most dishonest thing is to take sides and argue about one place or another using basic facts and figures. If I say I would like to live in a village in Africa, that should be respected. I might regret my decision but that is also my choice.
Comments: I have been wasting my time going to the gym all this time!
