A Fragile Ego Leads to Attempts to Distort Reality Some people have such a fragile ego, such brittle self-esteem, such a weak "psychological constitution," that admitting they made a mistake or that they were wrong is fundamentally too threatening for their egos to tolerate. Accepting they were wrong, absorbing that reality, would be so psychologically shattering, their defense mechanisms do something remarkable to avoid doing so—they literally distort their perception of reality to make it (reality) less threatening. Their defense mechanisms protect their fragile ego by changing the very facts in their mind, so they are no longer wrong or culpable.
Comments: Faramarz, I’ve been listening to hidden mind series. The one I was listening to today was about how our mind comes up with reasons to justify our actions. It’s absolutely amazing. I looked at my own experiences and could find many examples. I always had a question regarding what people do and if they actually know what they are doing! I realized now that their mind sees things differently and has a great excuse for doing things. They accuse people of things while they do exactly the same thing. Their mind finds a reason to tell them, “that is not the same thing! What you are doing is different!”. Human mind is an amazing machine that can easily fool the person who owns it.

Comments: Maybe I talk too much about retirement but I can’t help it. I’m thinking about it a lot these days! I was talking to family members back home about their plans. One of most troubling issues they brought up was finding trusted and qualified help for elderly. While people in their 50-60s are thinking about retirement and getting old, they are still worried about their parents. There are of course retirement homes but no one wants to put their parents there nor they want to end up there if they can. That brings up the option of having someone who can help the elderly at home for few hours to full-time. Main problem is trust. There are too many disturbing stories about the helpers stealing, abusing and ignoring the elderly. That is probably the most common complaint I hear from my family back home.
Comments: Faramarz, Farid explained it well. It’s a combination of factors. Climate change and mismanagement are the main factors. Of course, it’s a political hot button issue as well. That aside, it’s interesting to read various articles (written inside or outside the country) and get more and more confused on the health of the lake. It is the fact that the lake has lost in size and volume in the past 20 years. What gets confusing is that are articles telling us that the lake will be completely dry in few years and others saying it’s getting better due to wetter weather and man made changes made recently. I can’t tell what is what. I’ve seen satellite images and pictures taken by international organizations and still can’t tell if they are real, when they were taken, … I don’t trust anything coming out of IRI system for sure. In this case, I’m not sure where to look for real information!
Comments: تیم ملی بسکتبال به یک چهارم نهایی رسید در مسابقات مرحله مقدماتی تیم ملی بسکتبال ایران به مصاف قزاقستان رفت با برتری ۸۶ بر ۶۰ برابر این تیم صدرنشینگروه خود شد و به طور مستقیم راهی مرحله یک چهارم شدند. ملی پوشان بسکتبال ایران که پیش از این عربستان و امارات را شکست داده بودند با کسب برتری در دیدار امروز صعود تیم بسکتبال سه نفره ایران تیم بسکتبال سه نفره ایران با ترکیب احسان دلیرزهان، محمد مهدی رحیمی و امیرحسین یازرلو به مصاف هند رفت و با برتری ۱۹ بر ۱۷ برابر این تیم راهی مرحله یک چهارم شد. مغولستان حریف ایران در این مرحله است. تیم تپانچه ایران به مدال برنز رسید در هفتمین روز از نوزدهمین دوره بازیهای آسیایی نمایندگان تیراندازی کشورمان در تپانچه ۱۰ متر میکس با ترکیب هانیه رستمیان و امیر جوهریخو در خط آتش قرار گرفتند. در پایان دور مقدماتی تیم ایران با امتیاز ۵۷۵ پس از هند و چین در رده سوم قرار گرفت. نمایندگان کشورمان برای کسب مدال برنز به مصاف پاکستان رفت و با پیروزی برابر این تیم به مدال برنز رسید. بریمانلو به مدال نقره رسید در روز نخست مسابقات کوراش مجید وحید بریمانلو دور نخست به مصاف «چونگ هوانگ» از ویتنام رفت و این رقیب خود را ۸ بر صفر شکست داد. بریمانلو در دومین مبارزه خود به مصاف چانگ چان از تایپه رفت و با برتری مقابل حریف خود راهی مرحله نیمهنهایی شد و مدال برنز خود را قطعی کرد. وی در مرحله نیمه نهایی به مصاف «خیراندیش» از تاجیکستان رفت و این رقیب خود را نیز با ضربه فنی شکست داد و به فینال رسید اما در شکست دادن حریف ازبک ناموفق بود و به مدال نقره رسید. آقامیرزایی به فینال کایاک صعود کرد در مسابقات کانو و کایاک تک نفره و ۲ نفره ۵۰۰ و ۱۰۰۰ مردان بازیهای آسیایی علی آقامیرزایی در خط ۲ کایاک هزار متر تک نفره مردان با ورزشکارانی از تاجیکستان، هنگکنگ، اندونزی، قزاقستان و سنگاپور به رقابت پرداخت که با زمان ۳ دقیقه و ۴۹ ثانیه به عنوان نفر دوم از خط پایان عبور کرد و راهی فینال شد. تاریخی سازی تنیس روی میز با صعود به نیمه نهایی تیم دوبل تنیس روزی میز ایران متشکل از نوشاد عالمیان و نیما عالمیان، در مرحله یکچهارم نهایی بازیهای آسیایی به مصاف ژاپن با ترکیب «میزوکی اویکاوا» و «سورا ماتسوشیما» رفت و با نتیجه ۳ بر صفر به برتری دست یافت تا ضمن صعود به نیمه نهایی، مدال برنز خود را قطعی کند. این اولین مدال تنیس روی میز ایران در بخش دوبل در تاریخ بازیهای آسیایی محسوب میشود.
