Comments: “ We had that system 50 years ago and guess what happened? The powers to be did not like that.” Exactly my point. Shah was playing the game as it was set by the big guys until he didn’t. He deviated a little and all went to shit. My question has always been whether the West knew who they will dealing with when they supported Khomeini or he fucked them after obtaining the power! I have heard from both sides. One group believes that Khomeini was supposed to last few months and more pro west group would take over. The other group believes that this was always the plan. They knew and supported Khomeini to keep Iran in limbo and enjoy the infighting inside and outside.
Comments: Shah trusted US and got fucked by them. Not only they helped remove him, they basically killed him soon after. It might be just me but US might be worried that The Pahlavi family could still be very pissed at them and give a chance, they will not play their game as dictated. Either way, as of now, US and the West are not fully behind Reza.
Comments: At least to me Shah was a great friend of the west and even east until he decided or assumed he had more power than he did. He started asking for stuff from them in a fair manner. Whomever chosen by the major powers, needs to understand the power play. No one cares about Iran’s internal affairs. As long as they play nice with the big boys, they can rule as they wish. As soon as the counties like ours ask for level playing field, the human rights and people’s suffering becomes the excuse for them to pressure them. That is basically the relationship between the Arab world and the rest of the world. Obey the rules set by the big guys and we will leave you alone. Question anything, we will either replace you by force or get your citizens do it for us with our help.
Comments: I hear you. Unfortunately, we are not one of the arab countries. We had that system 50 years ago and guess what happened? The powers to be did not like that. I think the important question here is why are they okay with arab countries like that but not us. I can think of two possibilities: 1. We are much more important in the geopolitical land escape with many more resources, now add to oil, copper, and uranium lithium. 2. They did not like who was ruling Iran 50 years ago. It may be both. But what is clear to me is that they want the country to split and be weak, just like what Haloo said. They do not want regime change. I agree with this assessment since regime change could have been done a number of times. Even now, they are not really after regime change. If that was the goal the 12 day war would have gone a very different way and the green and Mahsa movements would have gone very differently. It is clear that they want constant conflict in Iran. And the only purpose is to eventually split the country. All other hopes and dreams that people have are just that and not shared by the external people who are running the show. So, I share Haloo's grave concerns. going with the foreign queue IMO is the marching order to split Iran.
Comments: Faramarz, I’m not supporting anyone other than people of Iran. I know in theory what they want. I assume that is a very universal concept. Basic human rights and needs. My point is that the powerful forces around the world are not going to let any country like ours to get what they want and deserve. It is unfortunate the reality in the world, specially in Middle East. Most of the Arab world realizes that and understands the game. It’s not perfect but compare to IRI, the citizens are much more happy and better off! Believe it or not, people in Iran are looking at UAE, Qatar or even KSA and want what they have.
Comments: Zinsky jAn, I do agree that politics are manipulated everywhere. It is not by a government. They are instruments. It is done by the large groups of capitals that manipulate the politics in a lot of places.
But I this the picture is not black and white. The degree of manipulation varies quite a lot by country. In the US it is the highest, IMO. Of course having oil and other natural resources makes us targets but there are plenty of countries that with good leadership have mostly prevented the manipulation and advanced their country. Many in Europe can be mentioned and especially I would like to also point out Japan and China. I am not saying that what they did will work for us. Most likely it wont. But each country has to find its own way, if they want to remain prosperous. Giving up and saying that a foreign spy is good enough as a leader for us simply because he is not our current government is insufficient. With the weak RPG, we will have a country that is weak and I guarantee you will be taken apart. And on top of it, we will have a country whose population (with the exception of the very old generation) will not support the leadership. I personally am done with revolutions and coups. For this reason, I am totally against a monarchy. Let's build in a mechanism to change governments every four years so we do not have to take 50 years and shed a lot of blood to do it. We have too many resources that for one idiot to control for decades.
Comments: Reza, Haloo is a patriot and very intelligent. I like him a lot. This video is a one of a kind and it will remain relevant for decades to come. I could not find anything in it that I disagree with.
Comments: Wow busy day here and good discussion.
