Comments: Observes, Absolutely. The apartments in Tehran are 2nd to none. I went to a party in the penthouse of a 12 story building. It was all marble and stone 350 square meters apartment with top of the line kitchen and bathrooms. The best part of it was the balcony. Huge size on all 4 sides with endless views and a jacuzzi. Built in outdoor kitchen and much more. The lobby was as beautiful as a 5 star hotel in US. I can’t afford that but looked at one that was about half a million dollars. The same apartment in Boston downtown would cost $2-$3 million easily. 200 square meters with 3 master bedrooms. The lobby was all furnished with marble floors and a pool/spa in the basement. The best part is that the condo fee was $150/month and that included a 24hr security staff that also doubles as concierge (doing groceries, wash the cars, basic handyman and more). The same fee in Boston is over $3,000!!! I’m not buying an apartment as I did that over 15 years ago in Mirdamad near my childhood apartment that my mom is living now.

This is an example of one costing 1300 billion toman or about $6.5M. Comments: The money and equipment that IRI paid to Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon has paid off handsomely for them. With these groups, they are assuring their survival. To be honest, If I were in charge, and my survival was at risk, I am not sure I would not be doing what they did. I suspect that this will continue for a long time. It mutually guarantees their survival against an enemy that is fine with genocide.
Comments: Trump also ran on spending all the money in USA. First thing he did was to kill USAID. But then quickly figured out that he had to fund Israel. But that was not the end of it. He now has spent a trillion on a war of choice and has a huge bill on his hands from every Arab country for fixing what he damaged. Somehow the bill went to him rather than Iran!
Comments: Shahryar, I agree with the overall sentiment but people back home don’t see it that way, at least many of them. They believe we are wasting money on Palestine, Syria, Iraq and Yemen and not getting much in return. In a perfect world, outside our region, I would fully support the idea of spending money inside the country rather than helping others. We don’t live in a perfect world and in an area that is always in some sort of conflict with the east/west trying to control. For US the problem is not any actual threat to homeland from countries thousands of miles away. As you mentioned, it is all about power, control and $$$! The only country that actually (based on what we were told) attacked US homeland was KSA! Not the government but its citizens!!!
Comments: Zinsky, Although I agree in principal with what you wrote below regarding focus of funding (certainly in the US), I have to disagree with the statement that Iran and US are in the same boat (so to speak), mis-appropriating the cost. Us for the Wars and weapons and Iran to the proxies. The big difference between them is that for US it is all about profits and greed. For Iran, it is about survival. If the events of the past 12 months taught us anything is that existence of these proxies helped Iran survive so far. So, even though I do not agree with such expenditures in general, I think Iran had no choice but to make that happen as they saw Israel and US as existential threats to their survival.

Comments: In the meantime, U.S. bankruptcy rates are rising faster than ever. Most bankruptcy cases involve medical bills and lack of medical insurance. U.S. is spending billions and billions of dollars in wars around the world but can’t afford to provide insurance to its most vulnerable citizens. Every time I mention this to my family back home, they complain about Iran spending so much feeding the proxies! Can’t we agree it’s the same problem with different countries? Iran developed these proxies to keep US and Israel out of their borders. If, by miracle, the treat is removed from Middle East, Iran would not need to spend more money on these groups. Of course it will never happen. U.S. citizens, overwhelmingly, want the government to leave the rest of the world alone and stop wasting money on regions thousands of miles away. That was partially why Trump won the last election. Unfortunately, they got the exact opposite.
