Comments: Interesting data has come out about the cost of mining a bitcoin around the world. Iran leads the world with the cheapest cost at $1300 for a coin that costs over $100K now! One of the main problmes with Iran's economy is the crazy subsidies that the government puts in public utilites and transport costs. Electricity, fuel and water is ridiculously cheap in Iran which leads to smuggling to neighboring countries and wasteful usage pattern by the people. So it's not suprising that they regular power outages in Iran, it's being used to mkae money by some powerful forces! https://x.com/AlexMasonCrypto/status/1962156328639455423?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1962156328639455423%7Ctwgr%5E8a0a5d23a38779e19f200cd9aac764a228c6a920%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.msn.com%2Fen-us%2Fmoney%2Fother%2Fshocking-report-shows-1-bitcoin-costs-1-300-to-mine-in-iran-and-306-000-in-italy-check-full-list%2Far-AA1LEQuy%3Focid%3DBingNewsVerp
Comments: India was a very pesky team that played 5-5-1. They defended well and ran their lungs out with a smart coach who kept replacing players to keep them going. At the end TM prevailed as expected but with more than anticipated effort from the players ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1E45VhYUzo&ab_channel=footballisho
Comments: We are back to drawing board! Both the green movement and Amini protests were very serious and effective but when people needed the West to support them (not bombing anyone but show full support for the people), they stood by and didn’t do anything. Now, we are back to angry people who don’t see any future. I’m afraid, the change could come in the form of military intervention. Maybe not the regular military but the IRGC. Most of the leaders in IRGC have become businessmen.
Comments: I'll add one more to that Zinsky: If it wasn't for Trump right now Soleimani would have been the prime candidate to lead IRI out of theocratic rule.
Comments: I don’t know when is the next jobs report but based on my own experience, it should be bad. Of course, Trump fired the lady who did the stats last time! The new guy/girl is going to come up with some creative math calculations to please him!
Comments: If you look at IRI history and look at moments that seemed too much for them, the West comes to their rescue. If it wasn’t for Iraq attacking Iran, we would have had a different system long time ago. If it wasn’t for couple of large amounts of money being transferred to Iran by various presidents (D & R), it could have gone down a long time ago. If not for this so called 12 day war, we could have seen a large movement in Iran with power and water issues. Bazar is almost empty due to power shortages. Travel within Iran is almost dead. People are ready for a change but the West gave the system another excuse to suppress their citizens.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei congratulated Iran’s junior volleyball team on the championship. “Dear volleyball champions, your brilliant performance brought joy to the hearts of the Iranian people. Thank you all.” https://www.instagram.com/p/DOBuoazCIJn/
Comments: Zinsky, I remember those block parties. They were so much fun for everyone, especially the incoming students. I was a member of the faculty at BU and man this time of the year was exciting.
It is really sad for me to hear that all that is gone. At teh time, I was part of the Cognitive and Neural Systems (CNS) Department which got integrated into other Departments after I left. In CNS, about 80% of the students (who, by the way, were top of the line in the world) were from other countries. I, myself, brought two MD graduates from Tehran University to get their PhD in our Department. One is now a practicing MD-PhD in Boston and the other is a member of the faculty at Harvard. All these types of students are now staying home.

Comments: Faramarz, It’s very sad driving around town today. I had a love/hate relationship with the moving day. I hated the traffic, blocked streets and so much furniture on the sidewalks. I also loved seeing these young kids so excited about being here. BU, Harvard, MIT and Northwestern had block parties each year for the new students. It’s mainly dead now. All the universities are laying off professors and administrators. I’m not sure if this is just temporary or will become normal going forward! |
