Comments: I’m sorry to say that Iran, just like 90% of the world, is not in the position to pick a leader or choose their fate independently. This is the reality and it’s been the case for a very long time. Persia used to be a super power and even during their time the other countries didn’t have a say on their fate. Even the rest of the 10% countries are not really letting their citizens to decide fully. They do a good job pretending that people vote freely and pick their leaders. They don’t. Best we can hope for is that Iran becomes a country that is accepted by the rest of the world as a reliable and stable country. There is no such thing as independence in today’s world. No country is independent. They all need each other and the stronger they are (financially and militarily), the better deals they can make.

Then there was his son who was a complete puppet for some 15-20 years until he slowly woke up. But then in addition to becoming a patriot, he also became a dictator. Then the cycle repeated in '79. IMO it is critical that we stop that cycle. People in Iran, not even us here, need to chose their own leader without foreign influence. The leader needs to be a patriot and looking after interests of his people from day 1. Here is some, IMO, subtle but very dangerous thinking:

RP name is chanted simply because of what iran was before this hateful regime. Only partially, and only by a small fraction. Most others are following the social media avalanche. The biggest problem: the avalanche present these people as the majority, completely wiping out the real majority in Iran (most of whom are young and never lived in that era), and wiping out their opinion in the process. This is how you make a minority rule. 6. My understanding is his name is being chanted as a symbol that we want to go back to pre Islamic regime where brutality to this level did not exist. It is crazy talk to say any nation should go back to 50 years ago under any condition. It is not doable. What is even crazier is that we put this in the mouth of the majority who never lived in that era! Go figure! 7. Nobody is forcing RP on people. Comments: By the way, I heard a report on npr by a hamvatan who was reporting on behalf of some international organization (may be UN). He was in charge of investigating depletion of water resources around the globe. He was using the term "Water bankrupt" countries. He did mention Tehran's situation, a bunch of other middle eastern countries, and even some regions in the USA (e.g. colorado river basin). Very interesting but scary report. He did mention the water consumption of data centers and how they are built in rural areas because land is cheap but never consider water needs. This is very true. There is one planned here in San Diego's Imperial County exactly for the reason of cheap land (1 million acres needed!!!). But Imperial County is mostly desert area. Unclear where they are going to get their water from. Because of these things, there is an estimate that our water bills will go up by 40% in the next couple of years.  I see the next set of wars being over water.

Comments: A very crucial game between PER and SEP today. PER won thanks to their Uzbek forwards who scored both goals. They are now on top of the table thanks to this head-to-head win since both teams have identical records and GD. The interesting part of the game was the complete change of the pitch from the first to second half. Comments: I hear you guys. I think this is true for everyone. If you guys recall, we used to have a sports only policy, a long time ago. We have let go of that because almost everyone here wishes to talk and sort of let out some steam about the social and political issues. I am very proud to say that we have been able to do that here without jumping at each other's throats. As you guys have seen, we have differing opinions and believes. I do report some results every once in a while and I have seen others do that too. I also used to wake up in all hours to watch Perspolis-Esteghlal games. No more. I also, mostly post political stuff. I personally do more of that about the USA then Iran. This is mostly because I live here and I feel that I should have a say, even though I don't. So, I think we are all on the same page here.

Honestly, I do not have the answers, and I am hurting for the people of Iran. My point though, was for example, in a normal situation, I would have been up at 2:30am in front of TV to watch Perpolis v Sepahan live today. The only football internet magazine that is working now is Varzesh3. I wasn't even willing to open the article on the game. Frankly, I didn't even care. I cannot imagine, how it is for the people in Iran, when the IPL is going on as if nothing has happened.

Comments: Javid it is easy to sit thousands of miles away and hurl expectations at them. The other thing is what shahollahis refuse to accept (I am not saying that you are one): It is not black and white. It is not like you either have people who demonstrate and risk their lives or they are government agents. There is a huge (99.99%) in between who are not demonstrating but are also not government agents. Most football managers belong to this group. Because they are in the spotlight, they have to do what they are told.

But boy what a poor choice! 2. The negotiations are about RPG being part of or endorsing Rohani's government which would be a really funny and even more bizarre scenario.
