Comments: Faramarz, I watched that foul live and had a flashback when I was 16-17 and the same thing happened to me and totally messed up my ankle for about a year. That was red card for sure. The argument was that it was not intentional! I kind of understand that but that doesn’t excuse the action. Either way, this WC seems more physical than the ones before and I agree it has something to do with the weaker teams trying to FORCE the game to be less technical and more physical. It might work for a game or two but eventually, it will backfire

Comments: Zinsky, Shahryar, this is the incident that led to the US red card. This is normally a flagrant foul and has sever consequences. I have seen up to a year of ban. But here, it was only a red card, and even then reluctantly after a VAR check.

Comments: Zinsky, I agree with your summary assessment of this year's WC below. Once again, USA proved that they can ruin whatever they want. Their style of playing of very fast-paced, hurrying, very physical, not giving up on any ball possession and keep pushing to get results, has been catching on. When they beat Paraguay in such manner in their first game, it sent the wrong message to every team. Paraguay learned from them, and it was obvious during their Yesterday's loss to France. Canada has also picked up the same bad habits. USA has become a model for lesser-talented teams to stay in the game and cause disruptions to the much-better teams, and so far they have been getting the results they wanted. These "lesser-talented teams" like USA, Canada, Panama and yesterday's Paraguay are challenging better teams with this new style of "no prisoner taken" will eventually lost out to better teams (one would hope), but they are still taking away precious value and substance from this beautiful game, I am sad to say.
