Comments: In academia, if Trump gets his way, end of most scientists career will come as soon as next year. We will not have to wait for three year. Trump's 40% reduction in NIH's budget essentially will kill all medical science in this country. Other countries soon will be the leaders in this domain. Many projects are already shutting down and letting go of scientists who are being absorbed into other countries. We will not see the consequences of these right away but in a few years the science in this country will start having no innovation and become a second class irrelevant science. This will have a huge trickling effect all across the economy as most of the innovations, scientific discoveries, and major companies that were small at one point, started in academia.
Comments: I am fearing the same things. Next generation is my biggest concern. But I fear that the damage will be done in the next three years. Even if the cycle changes in three years, I am not sure this country will come back to where it was. It has been on a decline both on morality and financial fronts. This administrations has sped it up significantly to a point where I fear all those countries that matter will turn their back to the US and that will be a sudden collapse.

Comments: Same here. Can’t live in this country as it seems to be changing too fast in a wrong direction. I remember watching an economists few years back and he was predicting doomsday for the future of America. I didn’t take it seriously then but now I see it happening in front of our eyes. The kids are willing and able to live in Europe or even Iran even though their reading and writing skills in Farsi is not good enough, at least for now. I’m returning and it doesn’t matter much where. Anywhere but here. I’ve been here for over 40 years. I think it is time to go back home!

Comments: On the Molana clip, the guy does an amazing job of reciting it. I credit my interest in Molana (in later part of my life) to Mohsen Chavoshi. The new crop of artists have brought a new light on our culture. It is amazing that after 800 years we fully understand Molana's verses. He has verses in few words that the meaning can be explained in few paragraphs. Simply the master.
Comments: Zinsky and Faramarz, My worry is also the next generation. We have had our run and have achieved relative success both career and financial wise. My kid's won't be able to have that trajectory. My wife and I have been thinking to down-size and also move to another country to enjoy retirement and give our kids some startup money to build their life. If in the next election the cycle does not change, they may come with us where ever we go. No one wants to live in a banana republic.
Comments: Even though TER and the winning coach are off to a rough start in the new PGL season the league overall looks promising. Last week 15 goals scored and this week 20 goals scored. That's unheard of for PGL, only one game so far has ended in a 0-0 draw. Comments: HAMVATAN Jaan, They cut many in my department as well. I’m not sure about my position either. I’m thinking early (by few years) retirement. Won’t be easy keeping the lifestyle in Boston but with a move, it’s definitely possible. My 1st kid is PharmD and so far busy. Not sure in 5-10 years it’s even needed with AI! 2nd one graduating in May with OTD degree. Good luck to younger generations!
Comments: Hamvatan jAn, I am so sorry to hear that. It is a horrible story that unfortunately is repeating far too often. I fear that this administration views this country for a much more limited group of people than even the worst case scenario predicted. Everyone thought that he wants this country only for white people. But I fear even this is too permissive. I think he only sees room in this country for people who supported him. He is eliminating everyone else either through some form of bullying, threats, or economic hardship. What you describe about your son is literally the story of thousands of graduates from every university. Even if our generation somehow survives this, I really fear for the future of the next generation. They really are fucking up the country.

Comments: Zinsky, add me to that list. Our company eliminated all remote positions as a measure to cut 20% of workforce even though I was willing to move to SJ! It is getting worse as all hirings are moving to India. Our company has big centers in India and Malaysia and all of the layoff was in US. These idiots should instate a tax on foreign hires instead of tariff. My son graduated in CS over a year ago with 3.95 GPA and has not been able to find any dissent entry jobs. All entry jobs are requiring 2-3 years experience! There are a lot of experienced people (laid off) willing to take lower grade and entry jobs. He started a low paying IT job and still looking. He is getting paid less than someone working in In'n Out! He started his MS in AI in hopes of landing an intern position and eventually a well paying job. For me, at my age they love my experience but they run for the exit as soon as they find out my age.
