Egypt 1-0 Argentina [rofl]

I am hoping for Argentina's elimination. This is another one of those teams that enjoys FIFA's corruption.

Zinsky,

I agree with your comment about US playing their worst game in this tournament. And it was because it was against a better team. They just didn't have it in them to compete at that level.

This is what I wrote yesterday about it:

It is funny how the reporters are trying to make this bitter pill go down easy..., they are saying US played their worst game tonight (Alexei Lalas, who is a huge Trump supporter), said that.

They just don't get it..., It is not that the US played their worst game of the tournament, they may have played their best game in fact. It is just that for the first time they faced a legitimate opponent (Turkey spanked them also, earlier).

I am not sure this was an improvement on the Belgian side. The Americans have lost 11 of their last 12 games against europeans. The only exception was the Bosnia game. And Bosnia was the lamest cooky in the jar. In reality, I think this american team was a below average team for WC standards which advanced thanks to the weakest grouping. Then they started believing the typical american hype themselves that they are somebody. Their strategy was as though they can compete with Belgium and the got their answer last night. The hype is over and the reality settles in now.

I expect an easy win for Spain in the next game. This Belgian team is okay but nothing special.

The USA played their usual game that is run, hustle and press high. But Rudy Garcia chose the simplest solution to counter their style. They played back to the keeper and he send accurate long balls bypassing the press. This eliminated 4-5 players from the USA team in a jiffy! The first 3 goals were scored this way!
As a lover of bekesh ziresh style I must admit I really enjoyed the simplified game plan [biggrin]

Belgium keeps improving as the tournament goes on. After 2 ties against teams they were supposed to win, they started playing like what was expected of them. Can they keep it up? We shall see on the next game.

And I’m sick and tired of the people keep saying this was the worse game US played in this tournament. Of course it was. They played a better team for the first time during this tournament. FIFA ranking being a joke is the indicator of the quality of the teams. This was the 1st game against a team with higher ranking and they folded so easily.

Shahryar,
I agree that the players were happy about the call and the coach could have done the honorable thing but in reality, I think any team would have done the same. My beef is with FIFA and Trump. Players, coaches and fans are always for their teams and even if a call goes for them that was wrong, they won’t complain or admit!
I consider myself as a fair person (I suppose most do!!!), but even as a fair person, I would not complain if a bad call goes our way in WC.
Either way, 2026 WC is filled with bad calls, too many rules, no one had heard about, to favor one team over another. I suppose England can use the same exact rule used to cancel the suspension for their player who was red carded in Mexico! I wonder if anyone would listen to them!
