Next, some samples of interference in our business and how they robbed us from our resources, the most important of which was not oil but a rather young and homegrown democratic and progressive movement. These are american productions but are based on released CIA documents. again, they have their own western angles but you can clearly see what happened. Comments: That book is important because it sets the stage for what will come next during the cold war. The next documentary is this two piece episode (3 hours combined. :) ) to understand events hat happened to us in the last 70 years within a more regional perspective. We tend to think that things that happened to Iran are things that happened because we have oil, or this or that. While this is all partially true, some regional aspects also dictated why world powers interfered and destroyed all hopes for our people. Warning: This documentary is done by Manoto which supposedly has an Arab funding source and so, yet another case of ajnabi documenting our history and has its own angles and so, I would watch out for some of the conclusions that they draw, or how they present things. Comments: Keefer jAn, I will post a few documentaries that I think are all good as a collection bu not individually. Unfortunately, most of our history have been written by enemies and the contemporary history is not exception, to the most part. So, there is no one good source that I have seen from a trusted source. You have to somehow watch and read multiple sources and piece things together. Generally, here is how I see it: All countries have had their share of incompetent and capable leaders, some had good ethics and some did not. Iran with its extraordinary long history has had many in each category. Usually in our history (like all other countries) when we had a bad leader, the country either was lucky that the enemies had also their own issues, or that they did not in which case they came over and tried to take a piece or two of our country and so, we lost that piece because of poor leadership. This is how things have been for millennia. This picture, however, changed in the 19th and 20th century because of two important factors: 1. Iran's enemies were no longer limited to neighbors and globally world powers set eyes on Iran as a rich source of natural and political/strategic resources. 2. The mode of engagement changed in most cases (and especially in the last 100 years) from direct war to infiltrate a corrupt leader's court and take the country from inside, furtively. The ground for this was set after the WWI when the ottoman empire fell apart and the world powers, mostly the british, split the middle east into many smaller countries, insanely dividing the middle east. This one is by a Turkish author and so is far more reliable than western sources, but like all other sources, has its own angle. So, you have to keep the Turkish angle in mind when you read it.
