So, the important part of that Nature work is that they can do this from unamplified samples. Thsi is huge, if the title is accurately describing the work. If so, they have scooped us.  We have been working on detection from unamplified sample as well. After the meeting, I'll let you know what the damage is.

Zinsky. The point you are missing is the unknowns. In Iran 40% of the income no one knows where it ends up and all economists work with what they know. The 60%. So here is the point you should not miss. The immediate billions that IRI will get from the sanctions lift will not go into circulation. As Faramarz stated it is not the sanction relief money that will bring the dollar down. It is the inflation. The government owes billions and billions of dollars to Bank Markazi. Because they borrowed from Bank Markazi to print money. All of this money will need to go back to Bank Markazi and through investments and tolid dakheli from scratch the economy will kickstart again and hopefully inflation goes down.
If you ask people in Iran they all claim that the reported inflation is bogus and it is more like 80%. The other thing the government is trying to do is to increase the price of gas prices (Benzin) to an international level at around 22,000 toman per liter. As bad as it sounds it is actually the right thing to do. 10 cents a liter which is the current price is a joke. With 22,000 toman per liter the government will need to provide cash out there to circulate so people can pay for it. And because there is no investment and tolid dakheli they have to once again ask Bank Markazi to print money.
So again as Faramarz said inflation is the key and that dictates the value of the dollar. Not only in Iran but every where in the world. The fluctuation you are seeing in the currency market in Iran right now has absolutely no data associated with it. It is psychological and it is only the Sarafis manipulating. Remember people do not rush to buy dollar when it is going down, the only people buying the low dollar value are actually the smart ones who know what really the landscape looks like. Because Mathematically, the slope of the currency change chart should be equal to Iran's inflation(40%) minus US inflation (7%). That is, the number 40 minus 7 equals 33%. So the price of the dollar will grow with an annual slope of 33%.
Dollar going up is not necessarily devastating. The devastating part is inflation. Dollar going up in a way may help the economy if every other components of the economy play their role. Just like how higher interest rate helps sometimes.
I would not worry about Dollar going up unless you are sitting on Iranian cash and need to convert to dollar at a lower rate. That is why many in Iran what they they do with their cash is that they either buy dollar gold properties and…..

Is anyone watching the super G event? The snow is man made. Other than that snow, there is no snow on the mountains. I am not sure how they decided to have the race here! Didn't the IOC visit the site? Of the 5 racers so far gone, two crashed and one had his pole stuck in the man-made snow which is stickier and heavier and bounce back and hit the skier in the teeth looked like knocked out some of his teeth. He finished the race but with a face covered i blood.

5000 meter speed skating was amazing too. The Belgian skater who was supposed to win gold did so badly in the first seven of ten rounds and fell behind over 2 seconds which is an eternity, but in the last three rounds, he made up all that time and in the last 200 meters, he even cut the Olympics record by nearly a whole second. It was amazing to see!

I should also say that the most predictable impact of lifting the sanctions will not be on the value of dollar but rather the inflation. I think it will come down and stabilize somewhere around 10%. But if the corruption is also taken under control, then inflation will come down to below 5% and we might even see a period of deflation. Inflation will have a stabilizing effect on the value of $ in the long run. In the short run, none of these are going to come down and stay down.

Zinsky jAn, with respect to the dollar, IMO it is so hard to predict what will happen in the long run. There are so many variables that could blow up. If for example Trump comes in, sections will be back up and the cycle will start again. Bit if (and this is a big if) all sanctions are lifted, and if doors open for the Europeans and the Americans to invest in Iran (again this is a big if), then, I think in the long run, the manipulated value of dollar will be eased into the real value of dollar and we will observe a gradual reduction of its value for the next five years or so, before BAnk e Mali drops a bunch of zeros and bring back the exchange rate to near what it used to be at ShAh's time. But there are a lot of big ifs between here and there.
But I imagine, you are asking in the short run, say a year after the agreement is signed. I think the value of dollar will dip and may even reach 20K. But this will be temporary and because some make their money from the high exchange rate, I do not believe they will allow it to dip too far and for too long. Then after a short period of instability, the value of dollar will stabilize and no longer go down, and perhaps slightly go up.
