Comments: I think CQ is in a very unique position right now. From one hand, I think everyone agrees that we do not have a comparable internal candidate. From another the guy in charge is a dud. Most agree on this as well. But there is more. Because of the very short time and limitations that Iran has, the ideal is just no possible. Ideal being having a coach that can instill a system that allows the boys to play the system they like which based on our talent pool is more of an offensive team. This needs a ton of work, possibly at least four years. So, the only remaining tactic that is viable for us is defensive coordination in which CQ specializes. Everyone also agrees that he is unique on this aspect. Finally, it has not been long since he left and many still remember his teachings and tactics and can easily adopt it again. All of this is on one side and the very important personality aspect is on the other side. He is not a "yes" man. This pisses off people in charge. He will demand resources, arrange the team the way he likes, and harasses constantly, if he does not get it.
Comments: Shahryar, That does sound like goodbye. I really don’t mind seeing him back in Iran. If any coach can put a team together in such short time, it would be him. I don’t have much hope knowing the history. As far as the criticism of defensive minded coaching style, I don’t buy that either. He had a system in place. It was more defensive for sure but a smart coach evaluates the overall team and brings the best in the team. We were one goal away from not only reaching the next round but finishing 1st in our group in the last WC.
Comments: Portugal reached the World Cup with the defeat of the killer of Italy / Poland also got to the World Cup.
Comments: Zinsky, If those comments came directly from CQ; it sounds to me like he is saying good bye to Egypt. That would be great news indeed for us, if we can move fast enough. This is a very good time to talk to him, since he is emotional and is thinking of a respectable exit from Egypt. Iran Football Federation; if you are reading this, we have a monumental opportunity to bring CQ back, even if it is for just 8~9 months. He will take us to the next stage this time. Anyone else, we are just wasting our time and our hope.
Comments: My impression is that CQ and Mourinho share many similarities/traits: both focus on tactics/details, both have narcistic personality structures, both are great motivators/psychologists/manipulators, both are well-spoken, both are charismatic at times even controversial, both openly criticize media/officials/refs, both have an defensive approach to the game. I would prefer CQ over Sko, but honestly neither of them brings the best out of TM. IMO we need an international experienced Coach (who is not just coming for the money like Wilmoze) who has an more attacking minded strategy. Someone who gives the Team necessary structure but at the same time let the boys just enjoy themselves. With CQ in charge i fear that his tactical and defensive minded approach would hold our potential back. Of course many deficiencies in TM can't be solved by any Coach like f.e. football iq ( complaining constantly to the ref, receiving silly yellow/red cards, committing dangerous fouls etc.), lack of fundamentals ( f.e. proper built-up/passing game because of lack of proper pitches and overall weak infrastructure/league) and lack of friendlies. Any way let's hope for the best.
Comments: Carlos Queiroz @Carlos_Queiroz Dream is over We try our best but today was not enough. From the bottom of my heart my gratitude to Egypt Federation for this honor of coaching the National Team. To all my players and my staff, my recognition and humble thank you so much. You will be always in my heart. (...)
Comments: I give it 5% chance at most.
Comments: True, we can use CQ immediately!
Comments: Keefer, IFF must grow a pair and move fast to grab him. He has tons of WC experience with different countries. This BS coach we currently have is worth nothing. He will embarrass us big time.

Comments: Who's in need of a coach besides us? He'll probably be grabbed in the span of a few days. You think South Korea will bring him in in light of their disappointment with their current coach
