Comments: Mamnoon, Keefer and Zinski jAn. I have had my share of issues with the airline industry. And at times, I and my family have been done wrong with obvious damage to us. But the problem is that the deregulation that Bush the moron did is in a way that no lawyer wants to take the airlines to the court. You burn your tongue on coffee and u can suit someone for mental distress! But I encourage you to go to the airport and read the distress on the faces of not just a few but nearly every traveler. At American Airlines, the first class line which usually has no one waiting in it had turned into a line that went around the corner with people who have lost their tickets. The one thing that I can think of, in response to Keefer's question as to why they do it, is that when something like this happens to one flight those people will lose their seats on their remaining flights and so, those empty seats are then sold to the desperate people, like me, who end up paying for their ticket four times the regular price. So, every flight gets a last minute shuffle to get people on board who are paying a ton of money. In my case, for a flight from San Diego to Bologna, Italy in regular economy, I ended up paying over $4K. If I wanted to get a ticket similar to my original business class ticket, it would have been $12K! I had paid $3.5K originally. And I can assure you that every one of those seats will be taken by the time eh plane takes off. And a good number of those people have paid a ton of money to be on those flights. This in my opinion is price gouging.
