Comments: As with any new virus that rapidly takes over the world, Covid was confusing and scary. Even the best scientists were not sure about its effects. Now we know vaccines can protect people from getting severely sick or die in most cases. It will not protect all against getting it. It can be transmitted even if vaccinated. Masks are good if used properly and can reduce the transmission. I personally got the 2 vaccine and one booster. Since then I have been living a semi normal, post pandemic life. The important part is to get vaccinated but that is now a political hot potato. This virus will be around for a very long time but that is what they do.
Comments: That is what I mean Faramarz. I am vaccinated and boosted and If you are vaccinated and boosted why do we need more? What's wrong with going back to 2017-2018 time where over 40 million people gets it, hospitalization and death rate are manageable. Are we not suppose to get flu or cold anymore. I just have an issue with strengthening my immune system with these so called boosters. As they say what does not kill you makes you strong. I think now the name itself (Covid) scare people more than it's symptoms.

Everyone in the world wants to travel and amazingly, airlines are selling them all tickets, full well knowing that they do not have the staff even for a normal travel season. And then, there are the strikes all over europe. In addition to my flight being canceled, my project scientist got to italy without his luggage. It arrived two days later because back in may Lufthansa's luggage people went on strike for two days back in my. since then Lufthansa never recovered and so, many luggage arrive delayed. Their solution to the situation is to randomly cancel flights that go through their airports so that they have a chance to catch up. Now he is still stuck in Italy because of a canceled flight. My flight back barely avoided an air traffic control tower strike in Amsterdam. It is all over Europe.
Comments: Faramarz, Sorry for the whole thing. Traveling has become a nightmare. I canceled all my trips this year. About Covid, it is no longer a virus. It is a political issue to add to all other BS. The 1st year was supposed to be the time to deal with it till we got the vaccine. After that it was supposed to be a solution. Masking was a temporary solution to protect us and others during the peak. If everyone would take the vaccine, we could avoid the mask. Politics made even the virus a dividing issue. We are a divided country that will eventually destroy itself.
Comments: Exactly Shahryar jAn. The vaccines are amazingly effective in reducing the severity of the disease. But they do not prevent infection. Right now I have a common cold in place of a life threatening disease. This is only because of the vaccines.
Comments: I have a friend who is the head nurse of a hospital and works the Grave yard shift of the ER. I have been getting first hand reports from him for more than 2 years now. The latest is that this strain of COVID is very contagious and he is seeing an average of 1 to 2 deaths every night. Here is the punch line..., all the COVID deaths are unvaccinated. about 85 to 90% of COVID patients are unvaccinated. This means that even if you are vaccinated, you may still get COVID (although less likely), but you will most likely not die from it.

Comments: Mashti, it is the vaccines that makes these variants mild. Whether all of them are needed, I am not sure. But with the vaccines, yes, I think we should go back to normal life. Comments: Mamnoon Shahryar jAn, yes, I am okay. It is a minor head cold. The thing is that people are tired of wearing masks and so on my flights may be one or two were wearing masks. There is a ton of transmission right now, almost certainly higher than any time in the past and like the article Keefer posted, this new variant BA.5 can reinvolve people who got covid before. So, a lot of people will get it. With the vaccines, it is not a big deal, but those who did not vaccinate, nature will select against them.
