Comments: $250K for Bolton!!!!!
Comments: Faramarz khan, no regime change, I think it is very much possible to reach that middle ground, as we have the culture and means to adapt with either west or East. Even the shah had industrial ties with soviet China and eastern blocs. on the satellite, Now with Russian ambassador confirming that it is Russian made, we very much have to accept that at any point they can sabotage and disable it and have it as brick orbiting the earth, if things don’t go the way Russians expecting.
Comments: Arash jAn, I think so as well. Hitting that middle ground when the country's resources and location is so desired by everyone and hence there is lots of external interference is so hard to achieve!
Comments: Faramarz, Kudos!

Comments: Arash, you have mixed 20 different things. If you are looking for people to revolt because Russia has launched a satellite for Iran, u r on your own buddy. There are much bigger problems than a satellite. But IMO if you are looking for a regime change, the first thing you need to change is an opposition leader who is sitting on the CIA payroll and is dashing all people's hope and energy for 40+ years. That is the best support IRI has had in as many years. But I was not talking about regime change. :) Just talking about this satellite, nothing more. I am with Zinsky in that independence is a tricky thing and the level of which we Iranians demand it is not achievable until Iran itself is a superpower. We are a bit off that target. For all the countries in between, they have to play the tricky game of being close but not too close. For some this is easier than for others. India, for example, has done this to some degree, but their geopolitical situation and their resources are vastly different than what Iran has. Israel's solution to this is to hack the US system and implant many of its agents into both floors of the congress on both sides of the isle. We are a bit off that status as well. For the satellite you are right that it is russian made and I am also willing to bet that there are back doors that the russians have left open for them to hack it whenever they want to. But I am not sure that it will be under the russian control. The news says otherwise. So, a satellite that is hackable but in the mean time is in the control of homegrown scientists is a step toward military independence. At least if Iran gets into a war with its neighbors, the chances are that Iran can use this satellite for its military needs without the russian interference. The fact that Russia does not want an independent Iran always will remain as a similar desire from the americans and the brits. These are the parameters that any iranian government has to operate in.
Comments: Let's be honest with ourselves. Iran now, or anytime in the past 100 years or so has not been fully independent. I am not 100% sure what independent means anyway when it comes to a country in our region. Hate it or not, Israel is a good example of a country that has established a relationship with east and west without fully following either one. It has been a very calculated and long term plan for them. No other country really likes them but just about every country is "playing" with them. This is like a sandbox for kids. One doesn't have to be the most loved kid on the block but one way or another situate oneself to be able to play in the sandbox when wanted/needed. Iran is nowhere close to that. We have been swinging back and forth for a long time without taking full advantage of either side. We have created enemies without making any "friends"! Iran (current government) has isolated itself from the world by trying to defend itself from both sides. They know very well that neither side would save them if needed & worse, they would jump on any opportunity to take advantage of them. Both Russia and USA have screwed Iran and its "independence" every time they found a way. Becoming "independent" is a tricky, complicated game that requires long term planning and smart chess moves. The past 40+ years has proven that is not what Iran is doing.
Comments: Faramarz khan, that is not just a machine. It is a machine in the hands and control of Russia. Russia knows completely how it works. It is probably made with Russian technology. Russia does not want Iran to be a power. Next thing you know iran wants Azerbaijan back. What Russia wants is a proxy or an ally to have some saying in Persian gulf. Iran is almost like a Ukraine. Can be like a NATO ally to west (Under the influence of West) or can be ally with Russia (Be under influence of Russia). None of these two want a military independent Iran. Both can easily contain Iran and will contain Iran. A real Iran plays the game right and makes a decision focused on prosperity of Iran and its people. How long do we want to continue status quo? There is a middle ground here. People cannot bear this anymore.
Comments: Well I think the big difference is that a satellite is a machine that we can easily check to see whether we have full control over it or not. But Shah's military was made of people. They are notoriously difficult to assess whether they are loyal to you or not. Independence is exactly because we should not trust anyone. The fact that russia supported the gassing of iraqies is meaningless. They will do it again as will the US. This is why independence is essential. |
