Comments: Shahryar, I was watching the game highlights and to see perfect examples of USA/Australia's talent, check out the counter attacks in minutes 51 and 61. Great do va meidAni skills. :) But man to set yourself up for a good shot, planning, and the skills for execution are all horrendous! Against a talented team, you will get may be a couple of these chances in a game and when you are this poor in capitalizing, you will get punished.
Now compare this to Iran's team which has not had any friendlies, are greatly out of shape, have huge psychological burdons, have no coaching whatsoever, and their selection has been through nothing but a corrupt process. Still take a look at the goal that Mohebi had in spite of a horrible game that he had otherwise. That shows the sparkle of talent that he has as compared to the dim light of talent that you see in USA and Australian players. This is where the talent pool comes in. Iran has a vast pool of talent and even a corrupt process results in more talented players than what US' meticulous search and training comes up with.

Comments: Faramarz, USA's group was in fact considered to be the weakest group this year. I agree with your assessments regarding both USA and Australia below. I also agree Turkey had a bad day. I watched them play a top European team last year with mostly the same players and they did much better, even though they lost. I do expect Turkey to play better today, but Paraguay is out for blood and they play very rough and dirty that could throw the Turks off their game. If so, the Turks will most likely go home early.
Comments: I think you guys are crediting Australia way too much. The fact that they beat Turkiye was a fluke and also poor performance of Turkiye. We'll have to see how good Turkiye is today. I gave them the benefit of a bad day against Australia. But if they do not impress today, they will also be in the subpar cateory. IMO neither of these two teams (USA and Australia) have football talent. Australia is even poorer than US. US has great talent for do va meidAni. But on the football pitch, when they face real talent, they will buckle. How far they go will depend on who they will face next. Thanks to FIFA there will still be some subpar teams in the next round that got lucky. Overall I think this group has turned out to be one of the weakest groups.
Comments: USA won 2-0 as Farid and I predicted. After the first game today, Daryuish is now in first place again, followed by Zinsky and Hamvatan.
Comments: US has had a lot of wasted talent over the years due to poor coaching. They have had a few stars and a lot of utility players but the previous coaches managed them as if they had 11 stars on the field (arrogance factor). This new Argentinian coach (Pochettino) has them as a team to play with respect to their individual capabilities. Australian team though has surprised me on how incapable they are.
Comments: Now, Mexico is very different. They have a lot of talent and do get the game. They are also in very good shape and motivated. What Mexico lags is "Game Intelligence"..., like for example what England's Kane possesses. What that means is that they usually do great in Group stages, especially playing at home. They always have issues playing the more "Intelligent" teams in the knockout stage.
Comments: Here is my brief assessment of US team: They do a lot of the "basic" things very well, including the "Hustle" that these days seem to outweigh talent. But when it gets to the talent department, they still don't have it. They simply don't get it. Their players are excellent athletes in very good shape and are very much motivated. There are all some of the "Basic" things I mentioned above. When it gets to the knockout stages, then they will face actual talents. They could still win, but that is predicated on the talented team perform below par.

Comments: U.S. is a decent team but of course they have not been tested with high level teams. They will advance to the next round. I would put them in top 16. Maybe top 8 but that would be overachieving.
Comments: On US advancing today: If they win yes. But even if they tie, they will advance. But that is meaningless. FIFA just added a bunch of BS teams to increase revenue. Then they will get eliminated in this round. The big question is what happens after this. The quality at the next level is the quality of the old first level group stage competition. But because it is single elimination, BS teams like the USA have a high risk of getting eliminated. If they win the group now, they may increase their chances of winning another game in the next round before getting eliminated. My prediction: They will probably win the next level game since they will win the group. But after that, it would be surprising if they advance. Mexico on the other hand is very different. They do real well against big teams. So, they may go farther than USA.
