What's this! All of a sudden we are pooldar? You're gonna be needing a lot for sacking the Skocic contract.

I hope whatever IFF does, does it quick and settle the questions about coaching and the staff right away. There is very little time left for anyone to do anything meaningful.

Reports: Queiroz could be back for Iran before World Cup

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Carlos Queiroz could be set for a dramatic return to take charge of Iran’s national team less than three months before the World Cup and Group B games with the United States, England and Wales.

The former Real Madrid manager led Iran at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups. According to reports in Tehran’s media on Monday, Queiroz could replace Dragan Skocic by the end of the week.

Skocic has been head coach since early 2020 but his position has been in doubt since Aug. 30, when Mehdi Taj was voted back in as president of the Iranian Football Federation.

Taj, who worked with Queiroz from 2016-19, said in a television interview that he’d seriously consider bringing the Portuguese tactician back if elected.

After leading Iran through World Cup qualification, Skocic was dismissed on July 11 but was reinstated six days later.

Queiroz has been available since April after failing to take Egypt’s national team to the World Cup. Egypt also lost the final of the African Nations Cup in January.

Iran continues its preparations for the World Cup with friendlies against Uruguay on Sept. 23 in Austria and Senegal four days later.

Iran, which has never progressed to the knockout stage of the World Cup, kicks off the 2022 tournament against England on Nov. 21, plays Wales four days later and finishes the group stage against the U.S. team on Nov. 29.

By the way, SU-35 is not fifth gen but has the rotating exhaust nozzles and so can do the nifty maneuver that you all saw in Top Gun Maverick.

By the way, era of radar is also over.

But all in all, the era of these fighter jets is fast fading. It is now the era of drones. Soon wars will be fought without people. Any of these jets running into a drone will be a loss of a $100M fighter jet for a few thousand $ drones! So, the future is more about faster drones, detection of fifth gen fighters, and sending a bunch of drones to intercept it.

Apples to apples, oranges to oranges. F-35 was built for the Navy. Its main advantage is stealth. It is neither fast nor can fly as high. I am not sure how SU35 will do against a fifth gen F35. However slow, if SU35's radar does not catch the slower F-35, it will get shot down before a visual contact is made.

A better comparison is with F-22 Raptor. This plane was built for the air force and can fly up to Mach 2.2. US Navy will not have these, but I bet you the Israelis have these and will get involved. SU-35 will have a tough time against the Raptor, especially, even in dog fight because I doubt that Iranian pilots will be trained and maintain their training by the Russians. So, buying the SU-35's by themselves makes no sense at all, unless, Iran can manufacture these. This will give them the basis for an indigenous, more advanced, tactical interceptors and may be even a stealth fighter.

Of course not. An all out war is not in the cards. In the worst case scenario, a few bombings. Go watch Top Gun. That is the worst case scenario.

The EU’s chief diplomat has said that efforts to strike a new agreement on Iran’s nuclear program are “in danger” after the US and Iranian positions diverged in recent days.
Josep Borrell, who chairs the indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran on reviving the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), said on Monday that he was losing confidence in finding a deal.
In his most pessimistic remarks since he sent both sides a “final draft” of a possible agreement last month, the EU’s high representative for foreign and security policy said: “The positions are not closer . . . If the process does not converge, then the whole process is in danger.”

Three Israeli F-16i fighter jets escorted two American B-52 bombers Sunday as they made their way through Israeli airspace en route to the Persian Gulf, in a show of military might to Iran.
“The flight was held as part of close cooperation with the US military, which represents a significant element in ensuring the security of the State of Israel’s airspace and the Middle East,” the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement.

Analyst: Russian MiG-29 and Su-27 Top American F-35
| By Brendan McGarry
https://www.military.com/defensetech

"The F-35's performance characteristics also compare unfavorable to already deployed foreign 4th-generation fighters such as the Russian-designed MiG-29 Fulcrum and Su-27 Flanker (also produced by China) in service with air forces around the world. These are the kinds of aircraft the F-35 would most likely face in air-to-air engagements against a high-end opponent. Compared to both the Su-27 and the MiG-29, the F-35 is grossly inferior in terms of wing loading (except for the F-35C), transonic acceleration, and thrust-to-weight. All F-35 variants also have significantly lower maximum speeds, Mach 1.6 for the F-35 compared to Mach 2.2 for the Su-27 and Mac 2.3 for the MiG-29.

Air-to-air simulations paint an even grimmer picture. In 2009, U.S. Air Force and Lockheed Martin analysts indicated that the F-35 could be expected to achieve only a 3-to-1 kill ratio against the decades-old MiG-29 and Su-27 despite its advantages in stealth and avionics. The results of other simulations have been far worse. In one simulation subcontracted by the RAND Corporation, the  F-35 incurred a loss exchange ratio of 2.4-1 against Chinese Su-35s. That is, more than two F-35s were lost for each Su-35 shot down. While these simulations take into account a host of other factors and include assumptions about the context in which the engagements take place, they nevertheless underscore the need for skepticism regarding the F-35's air-to-air capabilities.

Arash,

That is what I hear from people inside Iran as well.
Russia is running the show in Iran. Unfortunately, the West pushed Iran in arms of the East (China and Russia).
I’m not sure what will happen. I’m sure everyone is looking for their benefits. A chaotic Middle East is what everyone wants!!!

Keefer jAn r u saying that some parts of SU35 is build by european partners? If so, that is a huge security issue for Russia as well, one that they would want to get away from.

If manufacturing comes to Iran, that is a definite and significant plus!

As for 5th gen fighters, if Russia wants Iran to be an ally, it needs to give Iran the tools, the same way USA does with Israel.
