Comments: Faramarz Jan, Well said about the new rule for subbing as many as 5 subs. USA will be at a disadvantage against all three teams in their group; they really do not have much talent and depth for that matter. If CQ and TM can do 80% of their potential, USA is dead; downed 0-2 against IRAN.

A number of respected Iranian news outlets reported that Col Ahmed Mirzaei, the head of the moral security police of Greater Tehran, had been suspended from his role after the death of Mahsa Amini. Tehran police denied he had been suspended or fired. A CT scan of Amini’s head showed a bone fracture, haemorrhage, and brain edema, seemingly confirming that she died due to being struck on the head.

Comments: The one critical change in FIFA rules that hurts teams like the USA more is the ability for teams to have 5 subs. Teams like USA have always done better than their talent level allows because of their better conditioning. But now with five subs, that advantage can be mostly gone because you could build up a bunch of runners to run like hell for half a game and then be subbed. Teams that are low on talent, like the USA, benefit from the better fitness. And, now teams that have low fitness like Iran, will have less of a disadvantage. The big question here is whether CQ will take advantage of this. He is better than Skocic with his ridiculous minute 90 double and triple substitution. Still, it is unclear whether he will go as far as subbing three or even four players. |
