Comments: They might have used one month bill but mine has the whole year usage on each bill. I am assuming they looked at the whole year for you as well. Obviously, the $ amount is not important, it's the kWh they need. I agree with you. If you have the roof space and extra cash, go for more Pannels.
Comments: Also, what worries me is that Tesla only looked at one month's bill for me, not the entire year. And the one month bill was not from July or August!

Comments: Thanks Zinsky. I have gone with 125% based on Tesla's recommendation because I said that I will have two electric cars. I only have one now and it is using the free electricity that it came with. But once those two are using the electricity that the panel generate, I worry that I may go above the 125%! I am at the design stage right now and can have them add more panels or an extra battery. I only got one battery. My electricity bill is about $250/month, except for July and august when it jumps up to $600.
Comments: If you have the roof space and extra cash in the bank, you could go to 125-130% of your previous year usage to be safe. In my case, I should have gone a little more as I started using more electricity vs gas for heating.

Comments: Faramarz, They (Tesla) looked at my previous year usage and designed the system to be 110% of that. It will be difficult to see if that made sense until a whole year passes, I assume. With weather here, the usage fluctuates widely. I was checking my bill from last year and the usage goes anywhere from 400 kWh (May) to nearly 2,000 kWh (August). I know the usage in SD is not as wide. It spikes in summer, but the rest of the year is more or less constant. I, personally, hope for break even in a whole year. Anything more would be great but not essential.

Comments: Zinsky, damet garm. Point of celebration for u. I am a little concerned about breaking even. Did you plan for it breaking even? I understand that adding additional panels is not possible later. A friend of mine has two systems as a result. I do not get why this has to be! Mine is still in the works. I have to fix my roof first!

Comments: Faramarz, Solar report! Using the Tesla App to keep track of the power generated and used by my house. We have had a mild winter so far (temps in 40s and 50s during the day). It also has been sunnier than usual. My system went fully online 1st of February. So far it seems that I’m breaking even on generating/using power. I converted some of my heating to electric. Also, did my taxes and got my 30% refunded rather easily. It’s just one form asking very basic questions about the size and cost of my system.
