Massoud, I cannot disagree with what you said. In addition to everything else, I think RP is surrounded by people who are constantly giving him the wrong advice. I do not know this for a fact, but I am assuming this is the case since he repeatedly makes the same types of mistakes. I have no doubt that some of them have a very close relationship with the CIA. I say this because repeatedly, some of the things that he does, are actually no good for his popularity or Iran, but does serve the needs of Israel and the west.

At this time Iran, Cuba, North Korea, are the most independent countries in the world. But more are taking inspiration from them and joining them. In the next 10 years their rank will grow exponentially as China, Iran and Russia impose the new world order.

Zinsky khan. That is true about all countries. Every country runs their country their way. Even in Persian gulf like Saudis or UAE or Oman. But they just have to make sure they are aligned with the interests of their boss.

On your two examples though both South Korea and Japan are not greatest example of independents as US has imposed continuous presence in Korean Peninsula with no deadline and the Japanese constitution was written primarily by American civilian officials working under the Allied occupation of Japan after World War II.

But both countries under those impositions are doing well with their people mostly happy and don't care to be under influence compared to like a Cuba under Russian influence or Burma under Chinese influence.

In general though you are right from that stand point all of them are independents. Do the superpowers have a favorite in elections or try to promote someone like in Venezuela or Turkey, Burma or Belarus? yes they all do.

Even during the shah, shah was independent on running the internal affairs like he always did. I saw something on YouTube yesterday about shah dealing with soviets on Aryamehr Steel Company. Probably upset the US but he did just like Saudi or even Israelis dealing with China now. The big boss does not object.

The only country that is being ran by a superpower is currently IRI. Russia sets their foreign policy. I also think China is a better fit for Iran to partner with than Russians. Russians have done a number on us for the last 2-3 decades. They will never let go of reaching warm waters of Persian gulf and they know it is only through Iran. China already has presence in Persian gulf and does not need iran for it.

Faramarz khan. I don’t think people will dive into that level of political depth with respect to West not supporting the shah.

They always remember that era as the glory period of Iran and in contrary they may find the shah as someone who did not end up killing his people for his own survival.

As long as they get better life, education, healthcare, personal freedom, affordability, and etc.. they will not question those things.

Reza Pahlavi’s problem is that he currently does not have a support base and cannot construct something to have people rally behind him. For him to succeed he needs to have a seed planted in Iran and we know that has not been done. This Israel trip also was very wrong. People in Iran are still sympathetic towards Palestinians.

Independent doesn’t mean separation from the rest of the world. There are many countries (South Korea, Japan, most of EU, …) that are allies of America (for now) but also independent. They bend once in a while to demands of the big guys but in general, they run their country as they wish.
It is true that every country needs to pick a team. America, China, Russia or any other nation with power. It doesn’t mean they have to let others run their country.
Iranians in general still favor the west. That is mostly true inside Iran as well as most of us living abroad. What most want is to be friendly with the West but still independent from the boss!

What amazes me, and many others, about RP is how he is reconciling all the horrible things that the west did to his father and grandfather and his current support of the west. He really needs to address this, if he wants to have any hope for some traction. Otherwise, he has to live with some pretty radical diaspora, like the Cubans in Florida.

Rashti khan good points. You are not far off but I don't think Reza Pahlavi is the choice as he has no base in iran. Had the same discussions with friends on a Sunday afternoon.

Now one of our friends who teaches at one of the UCs made this comment when some of us kept talking about avoidance of foreign interference, Iran's independence, alternatives chosen by Iranian people within iran and all of that.

He asked us name one country that is fully independent from USA, UK, Russia, and China. Basically challenging us that there is no such thing and we are all in La La Land. The rest is Roya and dream.

We mentioned Venezuela, Taliban of Afghanistan or even Switzerland and he brought proof that even Switzerland is a slave to the USA and that is why they are never part of EU. He even said the closest to independence is actually Israel simply being the only country that can do whatever she wants and no one country including Russia and China cannot do anything about it. Have we ever seen China or Russia propose sanctions on Israel. They get away with everything.

He was saying that there is no fully sovereign nation and every country is at least affiliated with one of the superpowers and that is how it will be. He said Iranians need to get real and if US is not their choice then ally with China or something. He was actually adamant that China is Iran's best choice.
