IMO Alastair Crooke best understands Iranians and the Iranian society. Watch his minute 25 description of where Iranian society is now. He is a former MI6 agent and later a diplomat. The whole video is long but very interesting.

Don’t you love it when you break something and then ask someone else to help fix it? There was no issue with SOH, there was no problem for the ships and tankers. There was no issues with any of them. Arab nations were having no problem with security and financial stability. Iran was isolated with its own problems. Now, the disease has spread. Trump started it with the order from Yaboo and now asking China to help fix it!!!
President Trump said Monday that the ceasefire with Iran is "on life support" after Iran's response to the latest U.S. peace proposal. He has rejected Iran's reply as "totally unacceptable" and on Monday called it a "piece of garbage."
The Iranian government insists it demanded only the country's "legitimate rights" and no "concessions" in its response.
Mr. Trump is expected to encourage China to pressure Iran into making a deal to end the costly war during his visit to Beijing later this week, when he will meet with President Xi Jinping.

Underwater fiber optic cables are the backbone of the global internet, carrying over 95% of international data traffic. More than 500,000 miles of cable sit on the ocean floor, linking continents with high-speed data transmission. These cables are crucial for modern communication, including internet, email, and financial services, enabling faster data transfer than satellites.
Severing undersea fiber cables often triggers immediate, significant disruption to international internet and telephone services, leading to severe slowdowns or total outages for entire regions. While traffic is often automatically re-routed, this can cause massive network congestion and economic disruption, particularly for countries dependent on a single cable.
Latency and Slowdowns: Even if traffic is re-routed, the remaining paths often become overloaded, causing high latency (lag) and extremely slow speeds
Economic Impact: Financial markets, business transactions, and banking systems can grind to a halt, causing huge economic damage
Critical Services Failure: Hospitals and emergency response systems may face difficulties, as well as loss of data transmission for vital services.

Yes, most of the internet runs on fiber optic cables. The undersea cables run just about everywhere. Without these fiber optic cables, there won’t be internet connectivity. It is interesting how IRI is using every possible leverage in this war while it was always available put never used. This war opened the can of shit for the region and the rest of the world. We live in a completely different world than 3 months ago. If they actually cut the cables under seas, the mess will be felt everywhere. Fixing a cable hundreds or thousands of feet (maybe more) under water in an area where war is alive and well is almost impossible or at least very difficult and costly/time consuming. Iran is semi surviving without internet. The Persian Gulf nations would fall apart in less than a week. Who wants to live in a country that is under threat of war and no internet, by choice? Iranians, unfortunately, have no choice. They can’t leave. All these foreigners investing in Persian Gulf nations would leave as fast as possible.

By the way, if Iran claims sovereignty over the seabed in Persian Gulf, doesn't that mean that Qatar's large gas fields under it are done? all belongs to Iran?

Damet garm Perspectives. So, no internet for the Arab countries? [rofl]

It is unbelievable how much leverage the Persian Gulf has offers! I never imagined this.

So, Internet still runs over cable?

AghA Faramarz,

They are the Worldwide Undersea Fiber Optics and other critical routes (cables) planned or already in place.

For example the SEA-ME-WE-3 submarine cable system that lands at many points from western Europe to Middle East (All countries in and around Persian Gulf) to Southeast Asia, spanning a total length of approximately 27,000 km.

Reza, mordim, spill the beans. What is it about the seabed? Iran is claiming the oil and gas under it as well?

I think Trump's major issue in this war is that all his demands are related to what the war itself has done. [biggrin] The one so called "demand" that preexisted the war, the nuclear issue is no longer the subject of negotiations. [rofl]

Trump’s major issue with this war/agreement is that it will be compared to Obama’s agreement with Iran and the rest of the world. It cannot be worse agreement. It has to be better. At this stage that is not possible. There won’t be a better agreement anytime soon. The major fear of IRI which was war and sanctions have been demolished. War, as bad as it has been to Iran and Iranians, did not end the regime. With SOH income and other potential consequences of it, IRI doesn’t fear or worry about sanctions either. IRI is more confident and bolder than before the war.
If the goal was to weaken the regime, it failed. If a better, one sided deal was the goal, it failed as well. Basically, this will not work for Trump and team!
In the meantime, my car’s gas to fill up went from $40 to $70 and gas is not as expensive as CA or some other states.

The Axial Seamount, an active underwater volcano 300 miles off the Oregon coast, is expected to erupt in mid-to-late 2026. Scientists report the volcano is actively inflating and accumulating magma, following eruptions in 1998, 2011, and 2015, posing no danger to coastal communities while offering a major, monitored "natural laboratory"

President Trump, in a social media post on Sunday, called the recent response from Iran to end the war “unacceptable.”
“I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” he wrote.
