A growing number of countries sanctioned by USA are trying to figure a way to work with each other outside the world banking system. They are using gold as the new currency.

Honestly, I think it’s another game played by big guys to screw the little guys. At the end of day, it means very little what Russia says vs what they do.

Strategically, if I were IRI, I would have negotiated this before the peace agreement that China instigated. If they didn't that was a major blunder and they will remain as weak as ever. If they have done so (may be they have), I would reach out to SA to honor its agreement and would slap the russian hand without showing much sensitivity. In this whole mess, it is obvious why governments like IRI who have so many weak spots need a strong intrusive force all over the region to rely on as a tool in negotiations. I do not think SA would have come to the table without the houthies bugging them all the time. Overall, I think these are good tests for peace agreements. If SA and Iran can survive this latest fuel on the fire thing, there is regional hope. Otherwise, they both need to bow down to their masters.

For both United States and Russia, it helps to see them as infectious diseases. The most successful infectious agents are not those that kill people quickly. They are those that do so robbing the host from its resources very slowly. Ebola for example is not as big of a global threat as tuberculosis is for the same reason.

The same way, these conflicts are not good to go away. Forcing one sides' hand over another will not give the superpowers as much exploitation as a conflict that is maintained bringing each side to the brink of collapse and then resurrecting them. So, I do not see the russians or the americans to do anything on this significantly beyond agreements and words. But they will keep the flames alive and pour gasoline on it when needed. Now was a good time since Iran and the arabs were getting too close to each other risking the putting out the flame all together.

I think they will treat the arabs the same backstabbing way. I do not think they will do anything for the arabs. This probably is just talk. What this will do though is to help russia get more concessions from Iran in return for not pushing it. What they want, remains hidden. They might even use this to get concessions from the arabs as well to push this. In the end, they usual tactic is playing teh two sides against each other without actually moving significantly one way or another.

What Russia did/say is outrageous but not surprising. They have screwed us many times in the past. What does it mean for now, it’s unknown. Will they help the Arab nations take these islands back? What does it mean when they say it belongs to one country vs other?

Agree with just about all that was said below. People in the middle have become less and less important as the extremes have taken over everything and won’t compromise on anything and if anyone talks about compromise, they are traders!!!
You are either with us or against us!!!

Farid, I agree with your view of where we are as a society with the addition that shAhollAhies have this insane thinking that the west is going to come to their rescue. The 44 years of drought on that has not phased them. On the other hand IRI entirely is relying on Russia and we have a long history of backstabbing from them. So, the large middle that actually wants the good of the country rather than power is doomed in this battle.

Zinsky, what is amazing to me is that the higher you go in the system here, the less accountability you have. Should be the other way around, IMO! The consequences of a corrupt janitor only goes so far, but a corrupt supreme court judge or president can ruin a country's (if not the world's) future all together! What other countries define as corruption, here is written into law as legal. Trust of public is meaningless. The important thing is that no one will be able to prosecute him for this.

It looks like Chaina signed a similar agreement before. But the sensitivity with Russia is obviously higher since the ties are stronger. This is what Russia has always done in the past double standing with allies.

What I see on this board and among iranians outside is the same thing. Two small minorities, one is supporter of the current system and the other supporter of shah. The latter is mostly the older generation. But both share the same features: intolerant to opposing views, digging their heals and being single minded which is what zinsky is mentioning, taking everything personally which is what rashti is talking about. Problem is that the great big majority and almost all of my generation does not belong to either of these two groups but are caught as hostage to the fight between the two. I see aaghaa zinsky and rashti being part of the large majority. so do most others here like faramarz, observer, lol, Realist, ... just my two nickles.

This is getting out of hand. We have judges selected to rule the highest court for life and there are no rules to keep them in check!!!

Clarence Thomas failed to disclose flights on private jets, super yacht trips, and stays at resorts," Reich recalled. "He received his gifts from a Republican mega-donor. Even though the Supreme Court has no legally binding code of ethics and justices remain among the least accountable people in our government legal experts claim that Thomas violated federal disclosure laws when he failed to report the free travel he was gifted. But at the very least it violated the public's trust and corruptly exploited his position of power to subsidize a life of luxury.
