Comments: Yes, the humidity is what is really problematic and it increases as the night goes on and the marine layer comes in. It is usually far more uncomfortable at 2am than it is at 8pm when the nice ocean breeze comes through the city. The other thing is that even in homes where there is an AC, because it was not used all that much, there was very little incentive to put two units in two story homes. So, now a whole lot of houses have AC, but without a thermostat upstairs which makes the units stay mostly unused at night, in spite of the high temperature and humidity. My friend's house on Mount Solidad does not have AC anyway. So, he is looking for a shelter these days. :)
Comments: I call that engineered perfect storm. Much of what went on in 78 and 79 was engineered. But the storms had been started even before that just gained momentum in 78.
Comments: One thing people who don’t live in San Diego don’t realize is that the humidity is much higher than expected. 85 degrees and 80% humidity is pretty hot without AC. Of course during the Santa Ana wind events, humidity drops drastically but the hot winds makes up for it. Overall, there is no where in America with better weather than San Diego but there are days/weeks that it could be unpleasant! I have lived/traveled to most states in America for work and pleasure. There is no perfect place.

Comments: Faramarz, That was a perfect storm that took us where we are. You are correct. We got cut between Soviet and the West during the height of the Cold War. People in their 20s and 30s had lots of reasons for wanting a change. Unfortunately, they had no idea what it would look like. As I mentioned, even as a high school kid, I was not crazy about religion and a system run by them. Of course for a while it seemed that religion was the glue that holds all groups or at least most saw it as a way to get masses. All other groups assumed they can shift the movement when Shah is out of power. Little they knew, others were running the show and had planned it based on their needs.
Comments: For the record, I do not blame the older generation for where we are now. For what it is worth, had I been a few years older, I may have done the same thing. The main entity that I hold responsible are the ones in the west who engineered the society back then for us. The western government that worked against Shah out in the open and the soviet union who worked from inside in synchrony.
Comments: I was in highschool as well Farid. The group a bit older than us who were in college at the time carry the lion share of the blame. Zinsky put it well that what you see and hear now is most people's way of regret and grief. I play soccer with the generation that was in college back then and most, if not all were somehow involved in the revolution through the "confederation". Some belonged to jebhe meli, some to the religious groups, etc. They had all come together under the "Confederation" umbrella. They talk about how buses took them from all over the country, from as far as Texas to D.C. for demonstrations against Shah. Some where in the universities in Iran and they all were part of a grouhak back then of some type and describe how difficult life was back then in a university if you were not part of a grouhak. When they talk about the events back then, to me, it looks like none really had a solid reason for what was to come, but were mostly going along with the wave. To me, I have come out of these conversations with a simple conclusion: When events of the past do not make sense, there is always an external factor that you are missing. We have all read about the interference of all foreign governments in Iran at the time, especially the english and the americans. IMO this is the missing piece. There was quite a bit of social engineering ranging from the speeches and BBC, VOA, Radio Israel repeating them to paper pamphlets and all the way to murder of heads of military who were loyal to the shah and people who dies in the Rex movie theater in Abadan. They created the social waves that eventually resulted in something that no one, except for a select few, could foresee coming.
Comments: It is starting again! Iran's security forces arrested actor Mohammad Sadeghi after he made comments on social media in which he threatened to kill "morality" police officers. Sadeghi posted a video on Instagram expressing his anger over the detention of yet another woman in morality police hands due to her inappropriate hijab. “Believe me, if I saw such a scene, I might commit murder,” he wrote in the caption of his video. "Why do you get paid? To take people's daughters into a van and arrest them?"
Comments: Farid, Good question/comments. I was in high school during the revolution of 1979. I didn't understand it then and since. Most of the people who were involved in the revolution have changed their minds and know now what they didn't know then. It wasn't perfect but better than what happened since. In all reality, many were hoping for a change that was unknown. I was young and stupid but even then, I realized a religious government is never an answer. It has been tried over and over around the world and never worked. People don't read history to understand it or learn from it, they only memorize the names/dates to pass the test!!! People in their late 50s and 60s are now seeing the effect. We were screwed badly. I suppose all this nagging you hear is our way of trying to teach the younger generation to be smarter. Learn from history and don't make the same mistakes. Don't read too much into the nagging from old guys/girls. Its only our way of grieving our loss...

Comments: Aagha Farid. I don’t think your generation understands four generations above you. You have to start step by step. First you focus on generation above you and then take a look at generation below you. If the difference between those two generations equals your generation then the generation before the generation above you becomes your generation. It is not fair to blame the old generation for the revolution. That generation did not want the shah because shah belonged to future generations and as result generation behind the generation above you became the generation that other generations could not tolerate. Everybody liked Reza Shah. In the beginning that generation did not like 4 generations before them so they brought a leader from their generation like Reza shah who also belonged to future generation. Unfortunately the future generation picked up philosophies from the 10 generations before and adopted Islam from generations of past which really belonged to generations with opposite views to your generation. To look at this generation objectively we also have to look at all generations objectively because they are two different generations. The similarity between all generations is that they are the the same generation even though in reality they are different generations. One thing your generation should never forget is that your generation will eventually become old generation and you have the responsibility to explain all of the above to the younger generation. As far as my generation is concerned my generation is 4 generation before you minus 2 generations after you. I personally like every other generations. Comments: Aaghaa Zinsky, I have seen other texts along the lines of your description of the older generation. Although I try to sympathize, it is only done out of respect. Honestly though your generation is very perplexing and definitely very divided. The younger generation in Iran is not nearly as divided. For example, I have had many conversations with older gentlemen about the Shah's era and the revolution. Honestly, I still do not understand why the revolution happened. Majority agree that Shah's time was good while a much smaller minority says that it was khafeghaan. But, nearly all agree that it was better than now. If it was good, why revolt? I have seen footage of the revolution and the numbers were massive! The same people who are now burning with fever that this regime has to go were the same people who brought this regime in. Then they turn around and say that our generation was burnt and that we have had the worst luck! With a past that makes no sense to the younger generations, the older generations are trying to convince the younger groups to essentially revert time back to the shah's era. This just does not resonate because we do not have the experience of living in that era. My generation is more looking for a way forward rather than back based on a "story" that really makes no sense. I apologize for being blunt. I may be missing a lot of stuff, but I am just trying to convey how my generation sees things.
