Realist, you are absolutely right. Turkey is indeed closer to my culture. Which country is closer to your culture?

Faramarz,
That is the plan. Hoping to buy a small apartment in Porto and move here in 5-7 years. After 5 years of Portuguese residency one can apply for EU citizenship. I have almost convinced my kids to plan ahead as well.
Weather wise, Porto is very similar to SoCal. Landscape is similar as well with hills/ocean. It’s just greener…

Wow, Zinsky, lots of good information. I'll ask you about Taremi later and want to get to more interesting stuff. :)

I have been looking at retiring elsewhere and been looking into Turkey a bit. From what you described Portugal seems that it may be the better option. Healthcare is the most important and $7/month is amazing! Are you looking into retiring there? If so, how does it compare?

I had a great time watching the game. Taremi did well but is not the same as last season. Rumors of transfer might have given him a pause.
Portugal is a great country to retire. Friendly people, most speak some English and one of the lowest prices for real estate and just about anything else. Uber for 20 minutes ride is $15! Dinner in a nice outdoor place with a glass of wine is under $20.
To become a Portuguese resident, you can purchase a real estate for $350k. One can buy a 3 bedroom, 3 bath condo about 1,500 sgft near water for that price in Porto. Porto is a great city to do everything & nothing. Just sit in a corner coffee shop, have a espresso and watch thousands of people walk by for under $2.
Health insurance is 7 euros per month. It covers just about everything including hospital stay!
I should get paid advertising for Portugal!!!

Ancient Persians developed early form of a refrigerator which worked exceptionally well. It's called yakhchal and this historical innovation was revolutionary for food preservation in hot desert climate.

Even though philosophers of ancient Greece are famous across the globe, the first great thinker in history actually comes from ancient Persia. His name is Zarathustra (Zoroastra) and he haf immense influence on philosophers of ancient Greece, and later Roman philosophers as well.

Trump popularity amon Republicans is 50%. De Santes is the next guy at 12%.[rofl] The republican party is hosed. The rest of the republicans are fast becoming Trump enemies![smile]

If I were the Republican party, I would collude with democrats and settle for another Biden term just to get rid of trump for good.

By the way Zinsky khan, I have heard from friends and on the news that Portugal is great for retirement. I think I also heard on this page that it is a good country for remote work. Some americans work from there for american countries. Do you know anything about property prices there? And, what the rules are for am american or iranian to buy property there and become a permanent resident of the country?

Agha Zinsky khoshbegzare. Post pictures if you can.

I hear that the Taremi's transfer to EPL is back on the table. But he wants to go to Milan. I think based on his style, EPL is much better for him but he should go where he will get playing time. At the age of 30, if he does not play, he will decline quickly. But if he gets playing time, he is a ronaldo type player where he can keep going for some time. He is fit.

Roma sign Leverkusen forward Azmoun on loan with option to buy

Iran forward Sardar Azmoun signed for Roma on loan from Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday as the Serie A club tries to hammer out a deal to take Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.

Roma said they have brought in Azmoun, 28, "on a temporary basis until 30 June 2024" with "the option to make the transfer permanent".

Azmoun, who has 45 goals in 71 appearances for his country, arrives after a difficult spell in Germany where he only scored five times since moving to Leverkusen in January 2021.

But his arrival has been completely overshadowed by the potential arrival of Lukaku.

Chelsea have been trying to offload outcast Lukaku all summer but neither Inter Milan -- where he was loaned by the Blues last summer -- nor Juventus decided to sign the Belgium striker.

Inter were deep in talks with Chelsea but reportedly gave up on Lukaku after they discovered he had been secretly talking to their biggest rivals Juventus and AC Milan.

Last month Inter captain Lautaro Martinez said he had been "disappointed" by Lukaku for hiding from his teammates and refusing to answer calls before the deal broke down.

Meanwhile Juve would have had to sell Serbia striker Dusan Vlahovic in order to sign Lukaku, a move which supporters vocally opposed all pre-season and during their 3-0 win at Udinese last weekend.

With a permanent sale now off the table less than a week before the end of the summer transfer window Chelsea are talking to Roma about another loan, with the Italian club's American owners travelling to London on Friday to negotiate a deal.

Roma are at Verona on later Saturday and are set to start with an attack of Paulo Dybala and Italy's Andrea Belotti, who also played together at Palermo.
