Comments: After Iran, there are two more broad categories. First the group that is painful to watch their game, the likes of Bahrain, Q8, Iraq, ... The last category is the group of teams that play so bad that are actually entertaining to watch, the likes of India, Vietnam, etc.

Comedy classic I think Japan can compete with the strongest teams in the world with the exception of may be two teams (France, Spain). Korea can compete with mid-level European and South American teams But then, there is a big drop to Saudi Arabia and Australia. These two on a good and lucky day can compete against midlevel european teams. Then there is an even bigger drop. TM as it is now consistently, and easily will lose to lower mid-range european teams.
Comments: I was not aware that Nutty was planning to attack Gaza anyway. Were there any indications of this? But here is my thinking. I think Hamas was planning this for a long time coming for simple and existential reasons: 1. Israel has been taking land gradually and building settlements on the occupied land for decades now. Then they populate it with people usually coming from very poor eastern european countries (primarily) but also some times from other regions of the world. If you look, a lot of them cannot speak anything other than their native language and are quite uninformed and shocked as to why things are happening. In essence, Israel is not only using them to occupy land, but also as a human shield in between Hamas and their "real" citizens. Some of these people may not even be a Jewish for a long time (or care about the religion), converting just for the promise of better life in the promised land! This practice has been going on for decades without a consequence. Hamas needed to create a consequence. Regardless of what happens next, these settlements will not be considered so safe any more, less people will be willing to settle there might be the idea here. If there is any hope of recovering the occupied land, this is what had to be done? Was this their thinking? 2. Hamas is a military resistance organization. If they solely become a political organization, they will be taken over by Hezbollah very quickly, both in popularity, and in the long-term goal of defending palestine. So, this was a long-term coming as an existential battle that they had to take on for political reasons.

Comments: Back to football. It seems Japan and S. Korea have established themselves as the top teams in Asia. They are for sure a head and shoulder above the rest. They play a very strong and consistent game, no matter who the opponent is. Iran and another 2-3 teams make up the next level. This set of teams are not very consistent. Anything could happen with this group from one day to another. The rest of the teams are just not good at any level. They could create upsets here and there but in general, they will not go far. Depending on the grouping and some luck, I predict Japan and Korea to make it all the way to semifinals and even finals unless one eliminates the other one in the knockout stage. Iran could and should move out of the group stage but quarterfinal seems to be where they would stop.
Comments: Hard to tell for certain. One thing for sure, a calm Middle East is not what most want. Tension creates opportunities. Weapons need to be sold and power needs to be distributed. Knowing that civilians are not considered in any calculations, the leaders are playing a very long and dangerous chess game. This seems a move that was necessary to rebalance the power. After thousands and thousands of casualties and when dust settles, we will find out who will come out on the top this time around. China making a move in Middle East by creating peace between KSA and Iran and USA trying to do the same between Israel and KSA, something had to give. USA unfreezing $billions and telling Iran to sell as much oil as you can/want while Iran sending weapons to Russia. After the removal of Shah by the west, the Middle East has lost the balance of power by design. The infighting between countries and multiple wars involving USA has made the region a market place for weapon testing and sale. Why Hamas attacked Israel? Just another move by the big guys playing the game without telling the players (chess pieces).

Comments: Here is my tahlil of what happened. I believe the Resistance(mainly Iran) had intelligence from Russia that Israel was planning to attack Gaza this fall and do away with Hamas in order to force Saudi to start open relations with them. As recent history shows these attacks generally result in thousands of dead and a destroyed Gaza. So the Resistance decided to do a pre-emptive attack and make sure this time around the dead count is not 300 to 1 in favor of the Israelis. Iran agreed to this plan since they have a 15 year score to settle with Israel and it's supporters in terms of assassination of scientists and General Soleimani and the frequent attacks of Israel on their assets in Syria and Lebanon. They got their 'entegham sakht' and exacted a heavy price with compounded interest for all their losses in the past 15 years. The fact that the civilians in Gaza were going to suffer was a given since Israel was going to do it anyway but this time they got a surprise that put them in a state of shock that is still engaging them. They have been shaken to the core and can not make any decisions on their own. It seems to me that the US is guiding them since Oct. 7. Sec. of State, Defense, CENTCOM commander and even the President himself have gone over to try and take them out of the utter 'shock & awe' they have been experiencing. There has been a total paradigm shift in the dynamics of power in West Asia since Oct. 7 and for the first time it is the Resistance that has the other side unbalanced and in disarray. You can see it in their hesitation to start a ground invasion of Gaza since they do not know what other surprises is waiting for them. And more importantly the "arab streets" has been awakened by the success of the Al Aqsa operation and is forcing the rulers to become more willing to listen to them. The big loser in all of this is the ruling class in Israel. Once this 'war' is over I can see many of them getting violently confronted by their own population over their lying ways and the sheer incompetence they have shown in ruling them.
