Comments: Iran national football team defender Sadegh Moharrami will miss the rest of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. On Tuesday he sustained a knee injury in the match against the UAE in the first half and was forced to leave the field. Alireza Shahab, the Iran football team’s physiotherapist, said Moharrami cannot play for Team Melli and will be sidelined at least until the end of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. Moharrami should undergo an MRI scan to determine the extent of his injuries, he added. His absence will be a big blow to Iran in the match against Syria, slated for January 31 in the competition’s knockout stage.
