I’m not sure if the coach really makes that decision. Sure, the formation and player selection could lead to playing defensively but it will happen no matter what if the other team is better and attacks often.
All the people complaining about CQ assumed he was telling the team to play defensively against Argentina or Spain. He organized the defense so they can withstand the pressure as much as possible.
I don’t think GN will asked them to play defensively! They will be forced to do so.

So, most of you are thinking similarly. I also think he will go defensive. But my worry is that he does not know how to do that. So, it will become a hardambill kind of an organization and will eventually collapse. I think if he goes defensive, we will get scored on sooner.

faramarz he claims that his team is offensive and then comes short and he blames the players. he will play defensive on against japon and I think he will play with two defensive midfielder. Cheshmi and ezatolee. He knows if he falls behind he cannot comeback specially since Taremi is not in the team. Like Shahryar said I don’t think there is anything in his head to be used for thinking :) rashti I agree no one listens to him. I think the players will tell him yes sir you are right but then they will do their way of playing. My prediction is we will give two penalties to Japan.

I do believe that TM will play a very defensive game against Japan. Depending on the result around 30 minutes mark, things could change.
If we score one within the 1st 30 minutes, we would defend with 11 players.
If tied, we will defend but not parking the bus.
If Japan scores early on, we have no choice to attack and that would make it even worse!

Below are my predictions for the next round; and yes, I am thinking with my head and not my heart this time. I think Tajikistan's Cinderella story is over, and they will lose this game, sadly. I also think that Iran without Taremi is a long shot against this young and energetic Japanese team, especially under GN. I certainly hope I get zero points for this prediction. 

I also think none of these games will go to PKs, for some reason. I think there is so much on line here, and everyone will go after the win and will open up their back lines for counters, leading to a couple of important goals. I just one of them will be ours against Japan.
