Comments: I totally agree with you. Because of our government and the lack of real happiness in people's lives, they are seeking happiness and pride in other places, including sports. But unlike other countries, since we have nothing else to be proud of except our sportsmen. And that puts too much pressure on their shoulders. And football being the dominant sport in Iran, extra pressure on our football players. I don't think it's fair to put this much pressure on these young guys. Most of them come from a less fortunate situation and already carry the burden of making their family, and now the whole nation. I do feel bad about their situation 😕 😞
Comments: this hate and rivalry relationship with our neighbors is abhorrent. It's best to let go of the past frictions and learn to play the game. For fuck sake, 70 years ago Germany and Italy bombed the shit out of London, Warsaw, Ukraine, Paris etc. Today, they seem to only be concerned with beating each other on the field. Comments: The thing about Taremi's fight, agha Farid you are right, but this is Persian-Arab relationship. It goes back decades into the Shah era. Every time, they get under our skin. We react like this, and lose in the process. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen this, even from the great ones like Karim Bagheri who punched a Bahraini player at the end of a losing match like this and got ejected. I only remember Ali Daei taking this to the interview and even telling the Arab interpreter that he is translating incorrectly, that he understands arabic, and that he should say what he said which was AFC is corrupt and referees are bought. I'll post that video if I find it. The rest of the players, every single one over at least 5 decades, have become emotional, thrown the match and ended the game in a fight. The only exception here was the two cups that CQ was the coach and there was none of this BS. We still lost, never to these arabs, but when we did lose, it was with dignity, and to a much better Japan rather than the shitty Qatar.
Comments: It is absolutely Poison. There is nothing professional about our football. The commentator today knew and said in his own way that they need to ignore external factors. But that is a lot easier said than done.

Comments: Great discussion guys! Farid jAn, about your first point, about apologizing is new. It started a few years ago and took off from there. The generation of Ali Daei, Karim Bagheri, Mahdavi Kia were never like this or at least as much. We are in a really weird place right now in our football. Players have to sit in between basijis on the bench, fans are basijis hauled in from Iran, and then we have the bisharaf episodes of the World Cup. These players are placed in a situation where they have to appease the basijies but also be mindful of its consequences with the general population. This is not a normal situation in Europe where football has everything to do with money but not with politics. It was clear that because of this, players in the locker room all had agreed to say the same thing: We are sorry. I had never seen such unanimity in what they say!! Clearly they were worried about a back lash from one side, wanted to avoid that, without pissing off the other side.

Since I did not really play football or soccer in Iran, I noticed a few things about Iranian players and their mentality that is totally weird to me but may be normal to you. First off, The very first thing they say is we apologize for disappointing our nation. What the fuck does that even mean? Every time Argentine with the best player on earth couldn't win the world cup, they apologized??? That's a totally fucked up mentality. The proper address is we did our best, thank you for your unconditional support, we will be back. That is it. Second, from the YouTube video Maghsoud posted on the sidelines, once you lose, as professional team, you Taremi did on the field is immature and detrimental to our Team chemistry. The place to give it to these MFs would have been in an interview podium telling the world how corrupt or fucked up Asian Cup is being run. But not fighting the other teams players, CHEAP and UNACCEPTABLE.

Since you brought the political reasons why this team is not doing well, I must also say this: thinking about last year's movement and all, the only thing that it showed was that as long as Reza Pahlavi is there, no one else has a prayer of leading the opposition. Good or bad this is how it is. For the past 48 years though this has been bad. This brings us to the crazy conclusion that I cannot remember now but someone here had said before: RP is the best IRI supporter (willing or unwilling is another story). But as long as he is there and is such a weak leader, there is no hope of change in Iran. As soon as there is any movement, shahollahis will push him to the front and then he will kill the movement by his passivity. So, this is the shit that we have to keep putting up with.
Comments: Agha Reza, starting from the top FIFA is one of the most corrupt organizations. Its subsidiary the AFC cannot be any better. It is an organization up for sale and arabs are buying it. We, are standing on the sidelines and screaming foul. The same goes for our football. IRI is one of the most corrupt governments on the planet. IFF is its subsidiary and so we cannot expect anything it does to be good. This means that this team, as much as the players want it to be good, it cannot be. The preparation is not there. The support is not there. And the best they could do for a coach was ghandali making the same old mistakes again for the twentieth time. Even if we had won the cup, it would have been more of a fluke than a planed thing.
