Shahryar,
Trump is a conman. If anyone hasn’t learned that is either too stupid or totally ignorant. He only cares for himself.
I also have to admit, he is one of the best at it. He is very good at reading the situation/crowd and use it to fool people. That has been his life for 70+ years. He has mastered it better than anyone I can name.
I can tell you this, he can start a religion and declare himself as a prophet and millions will join him!

For those of us who know people who believe trump is their savior and cares about them, here is a real clip of him over the weekend in Las Vegas when he actually told the truth to his supporters.

And the truth was that he didn't care about his supporters; he just wants their votes so he can regain the power he wants.

Yes, I remember the name calling. We all have been subject to that and it continues. But that does not matter.

What is important is that it has always been obvious that sanctions are not effective. It never has been for any goal that people want to achieve with it. In most cases it actually goes against the goals that people have in mind. If you want regime change, sanctions are the last thing you want. It has never led to regime change in any country ever! It actually has made the government and corruption stronger. This is all clear and has always been. People who are not agreeing with this are either engulfed in emotions so much that they start ignoring facts (i.e. are at least temporarily dumb), have an alternative agenda, or that they cannot really think of anything else that they can do (which may fall into the first group of people).

Sanctions are never designed to force a chance either radically (like a revolution) or minimally (like slow internal change for the better). They are only implemented to bring the government to the negotiating table for the sole purpose of obedience. Even in this IRI has shown that sanctions are miserable failures. There is little obedience that IRI is exercising. The biggest example was the Trump was begging them to come back to the table and sign a new JCPOA with Trump's name on it and they simply turned their noses at it. Trump imposed some of the harshest sanctions. All for naught! He then offered opportunity to bribe him for some unprecedented benefits and they still said get lost!

So, there is all sorts of data that shows how ineffective sanctions are for people's goals and still, some beat up that drum in vain.

I don’t trust this but also don’t trust IRI telling people not to trust this!
Most of my family are curious about this and asking me about it! I have no clue…

Well! This is another election with no real impact!

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Iran’s Guardian Council on Sunday approved the country’s hard-line parliament speaker and five others to run in the country’s June 28 presidential election following a helicopter crash that killed President Ebrahim Raisi and seven others.

The council again barred former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a firebrand populist known for the crackdown that followed his disputed 2009 re-election, from running.

The council’s decision represents the starting gun for a shortened, two-week campaign to replace Raisi, a hard-line protege of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei once floated as a possible successor for the 85-year-old cleric.

The selection of candidates approved by the Guardian Council, a panel of clerics and jurists ultimately overseen by Khamenei, suggests Iran’s Shiite theocracy hopes to ease the election through after recent votes saw record-low turnout and as tensions remain high over the country’s rapidly advancing nuclear program, as well as the Israel-Hamas war.

The Guardian Council also continued its streak of not accepting a woman or anyone calling for radical change to the country’s governance.

The campaign will likely include live, televised debates on Iran’s state-run broadcaster. Candidates also advertise on billboards and offer stump speeches to back their bids.

The most prominent candidate remains Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, 62, a former Tehran mayor with close ties to the country’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard. However, many remember that Qalibaf, as a former Guard general, was part of a violent crackdown on Iranian university students in 1999. He also reportedly ordered live gunfire to be used against students in 2003 while serving as the country’s police chief.

Other candidates include Saeed Jalili, former Jalili, former senior nuclear negotiator, who ran in 2013, and registered in 2021 before withdrawing to back Raisi. Tehran mayor Alireza Zakani also withdrew in 2021 to back Raisi. Mostafa Pourmohammadi is a former minister of justice. Amirhossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi, Raisi’s vice president, ran in the 2021 presidential elections and came in last with just under 1 million votes.

As I mentioned before, I’m not a big fan of NBA but living in Boston and Celtics being the best this season, made me follow the games. This city is ready to celebrate. Police already sending massages warning people to stay calm. One massage is asking people to stay safe, win or lose!!!

These types of people exist everywhere. They are like leaches. The right environment makes it much easier for them to thrive. A close economical environment is a perfect place for them. No competition means a much easier way for them to grow. I have been against sanctions from day one and this is the main reason for it. I’ve been attacked and called various names for my beliefs but results can speak for themselves.

Yeah, the irony is that they are not religious at all. Just leaches that can survive in every society.

People like him, love the sanctions. He does nothing special. Just brings things to Iran that is usually difficult to find. In an open economy, leaches like him would have to find an honest job which is why they love the current situation.

Zinsky, I know a guy who falls perfectly in your second group. He is a football pishkesvat and played for Es Es, even I think has a short stint at TM. He now has three wives and is in the import business. One of the wives, the first, is in San Diego. The second is in Sweden, and the third is in Tehran along with a few sigheh. With his income, he has bought a house here in San Diego for his first, one in Sweden for his second, and a three story building in Tehran for his third and the sighehs that come and go. I was talking to him about a year ago when $ has reached some $10K (I think) and he was bitterly complaining that he had to send $20,000 each months to the two wives outside and for their kids who are now refusing to work and are simply living off dad's income. His expenses in Iran may match this as well since he is into all sorts of drugs and living large! So, this guy burns through at least $30,000 cash each month. On top of all this, he is also buying property in Iran as well. Imagine how much he is robbing people to burn through this kind of doe!

Overall, the Iranian economy is strange. The usual elements such as oil are the main driver but sanctions, corruption and connections are the main drivers for a handful of people. By enforcing sanctions, the west has created an environment that only few can thrive. It hurts the most and helps the few to get ultra wealthy!

Ultra rich in Iran fall into few categories.
The most obvious is the akhund-Zadeh group. They just take money without any real work. Just take it as they wish.
Another group are the businessmen who found a way (with bribes and connections) to break the sanctions and import everything and anything they can to sell at crazy prices to the first group. They are not even pretend to be religious or pro government but love the shit they created. They use the muddy waters and get as much fish as they can. They love the sanctions and higher $ values.
Last group are the ones who facilitate the above. Big guy in Sepah who work with group 2 by getting a % of the money.
All this money needs to be washed and protected. They buy gold and $. They build and purchase massive quantities of homes/lands. They build shopping centers and import luxury goods to sell.
These are the top 5% of the population. Another 5% feed of these groups.
Middle class is defined as people with a house which mostly came from inheritance. Very few people with a job have bought their own house without help from family members. They can’t!
Lastly, there are the rest. People who barely can afford anything! They can only rent a place to live and with the cost of living going higher daily decided to stay single or if married, no kids.
This is mainly what is happening in larger cities. The ones living outside the main cities and towns have a totally different lives. Not a pleasant one but different in so many ways!

There is a lot of anger towards Biden when it comes to Israel! I can’t argue against that but reality is that Americans have very few options in regards to Israel. Jews have full control of the system in America. The president has almost none.
In addition to that, America has no credibility whatsoever when it comes to wars and conflicts in Middle East. After what they did in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and other countries in the region, they can’t play the good cop over there. Their reputation is tinted and well known! How can they ask anyone in the region to follow international laws when they have broken so many of them???
