The ongoing talks between Iran and Oman are critically important because they could lead to the full reopening of the world’s most critical energy chokepoint. Gharibabadi said negotiations have continued for more than three weeks and produced broad agreement on proposed inbound and outbound shipping routes. The talks also covered technical arrangements, the security and sovereignty of Iran and Oman, and a proposed joint coordination center to manage maritime traffic and collect information from vessels. Under the proposed arrangement, temporary routes near Iran’s Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz and through Omani territorial waters would close. Parts of the new inbound and outbound corridors would pass through Iranian waters, marking a departure from a decades-old system under which commercial traffic traveled through Omani waters, Gharibabadi said. The proposed route would initially operate for two to four months or possibly longer, according to Gharibabadi. Its implementation would require a separate decision by Iran’s senior leadership. “This understanding does not, in itself, mean that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen,” he said, adding that reopening remains subject to specific preconditions. CNN has reached out to the government of Oman for comment on the details shared by the Iranian official. Gharibabadi said those conditions largely concerned the United States, which he accused of reinstating a naval blockade, resuming hostilities and reimposing sanctions. The US has said it resumed strikes after Iran fired on vessels transiting the strait. Iran views US compliance with commitments under a June memorandum of understanding as necessary, but not sufficient, for reopening the strait, Gharibabadi said. Tehran would also require assurances intended to prevent further breaches, he said.
Comments: Great haircut story, Zinsky :) I too, similar to you and Faramarz had stories like this. The people who take care of my mom (caregivers) are from Philippines and Indonesia. One of them brought her brother to talk to me about Iran. He wanted to know what the real story was, since he did not believe the US media. I spoke with him for 20 minutes and gave him some links t explore on his own. He was very excited about it and "happy" to have met an Iranian in person.

Comments: Shahryar, the problem that I see now is that Trump not only has put himself in a corner but also the entire diplomatic process. IMO he has lost the opportunity for a diplomatic solution and rescuing his presidency.
The problem is the credibility. What could he possibly offer at the negotiation table that would be credible? Iran could ask for all the withheld funds ahead of reopening the strait and even reparation all up front. But this would still be a very bad deal. It would guarantee the resumption of war after a few weeks once all the oil reserves have been replenished. It is the only leverage that Iran has. After that USA would attack again on Israeli command. If Iran really wants a lasting peace, I do not see any way other than running this presidency into the ground. I hope that I am wrong and have all along been hopeful of diplomacy. Iran certainly has been willing. But Trump essentially closed that door permanently. Iran would be foolish to go back to the table.

So Bessent wants Fed liquidity to paper over the problem. Extremely risky long-term, terrifying consequences: • Erases Fed independence as the Treasury publicly pressures it to expand facilities for a foreign crisis. • Signals the world’s second-biggest U.S. debt holder is in deep trouble. Markets will test how far this goes. • Turns a temporary tool into a permanent backdoor bailout. The market will force ever-larger interventions. • Risks accelerating a loss of confidence in both the yen and the dollar. BoJ Banker Yuto had earlier warned about forced U.S. interventions and it did indeed happen. He also warned that BoJ has discussed the worst case scenario that considers collapse of creditors trust on U.S. dollars but Washington will never let that happen.
Comments: Funny story! Went to get a haircut. The guy was from Nigeria. He was watching a YouTube video about Iran war. I asked what he thinks. He said, “I’m so proud of Iranians for standing up to US and Israel”! I told him I’m from Iran. The whole store started coming over and giving me a high five! Who knew? According to some sources (I cannot verify), there is only 3-weeks of reserve left, which has kept the gas prices lower, artificially. After that, the gas couple easily double overnight.
