UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Iran’s new president signaled to world leaders Tuesday that he wants to open a “constructive” chapter in his country’s international relations — but he made clear that everyone else, including the United States, needs to do their part.
In his first speech at the U.N. General Assembly’s annual gathering of world leaders, Masoud Pezeshkian struck a somewhat more measured tone than his predecessors often have in recent years.
“I aim to lay a strong foundation for my country’s entry into a new era, positioning it to play an effective and constructive role in the evolving global order,” said Pezeshkian, a heart surgeon who ran as a reformer. He took office in July.
Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, opened the door last month to renewed negotiations with the United States over his country’s rapidly advancing nuclear program, telling Iran’s civilian government there was “no harm” in engaging with its “enemy.” The United States, under former President Donald Trump, withdrew in 2018 from Iran’s deal with several Western nations to curtail its nuclear program in exchange for getting sanctions lifted.

BTW, IRN/MOR is played on Thursday at 5:30AM PST. It is going to be a very tough match, MOR beat Iran in a friendly tournament not long ago so Iran is out for revenge. It's a real fighting game with not so friendly attitudes!

I think the Spanish THA coach started the debate about Iran France match with his post on social media. Then he got support from other Spanish coaches at the WC. He was clearly pissed that both teams preferred to play them than MOR!
I said it before that the first half was just garbage but Iran was condemned to win since a draw was the same for them. SO in the 2nd half Iran came to win and France did not really need to loosen up and allow goals like that.
It would be very interesting encounter for the coaches of FRA and THA when they play, the THA coach he had no respect for either team or coaches

My high school and our old home was on Bahar street near the Shahrbani hospital. A 10 minute walk to Amjadieh. I could tell when TAJ or PER scored by the big noise that could be heard from Amjadieh, no need for livescore LOL!!!!!!

Tehran derby will be played tomorrow in Arak at 8:30AM PST.
This is the first time in a very long time, I think pre-revolution, that the drby is played in a cozy 10K capacity stadium. This should bring back a lot of memories form  Taj/Shahin/Paykan/Perspolis games with Behzadi, Kalani, Asli, Khordin, Karo, Jabbari, Hejazi, etc.... days!

I think the complaint is only against France for two reasons. One is the obviously intentional letting goals in and the other is that Iran scored four goals. It is hard to say that they did not want to win.

I read the game the same way as you do. After the blatant letting the ball in, Iran realized that they might as well win by a bigger margin and attacked.

Busy week!!!
Is the complaint against Iran and France or only France? 1st half looked like a game no one wanted to score. After the obvious let the ball in by the France goalkeeper, Iran realized they can’t lose the game with the way France was playing. They decided to go ahead and win it knowing the road ahead will be tough.

I knew this would be too much. The french keeper sidestepped to allow Iran to score. That was terrible! I also did not know that there is such a thing as violating the spirit of the sport on the books. Definitely the French violated that! If things were fair, FIFA would declare France as the loser in the game. But really, this is such a grave violation that I think disqualification from the whole tournament would be more appropriate.

But hey, we are talking FIFA and the French. So, I think most likely, they will say this is all within the "spirit" of the sport and all is good.

Fifa’s Futsal World Cup has exploded into controversy, with coaches making accusations of match-fixing following a heavy defeat for France against Iran.

Rivals have complained about the manner of the French performance in a 4-1 loss, a result that opened up a potentially easier passage through the tournament for Les Bleus in Uzbekistan. A post on X by Ricardo Iñiguez, the head coach of Libya, who were eliminated from the competition at the group stage, said the match had been a “disgrace” for the sport.

“Libya is going to file an official complaint in relation to this match for ‘match fixing’, it is a disgrace for our sport,” Iñiguez wrote, before going on to share criticism from other figures within the sport.

The Guardian understands that Fifa is looking into claims of “match manipulation” and breaches of “the spirit of the game”, rather than match fixing.

Concerns were aired on social media as the match was being played, in a fixture where the loser would progress to play Thailand in the round of 16. The winner, meanwhile, would take on current African futsal champions Morocco, before a potential quarter-final against perennial champions Brazil.

In another X post, the Thailand coach, Miguel Rodrigo, said his team were waiting to take on the French “with open arms”, but also called both teams “a world disgrace” who had “dishonoured my sport”.

Video footage shared by Rodrigo appears to show French goalkeeper Thibaut Garros moving away from the ball in the buildup to Iran’s opening goal. The French went on to record only six shots on goal over the course of the entire match, scoring a consolation after Iran had eased to a 4-0 lead.

In a statement, Fifa said it was “aware of complaints filed by participating teams at the Futsal World Cup regarding the Group F match between France and Iran” but that “no further comment will be made while this process is ongoing”.

The French Football Federation and the Iranian Football Federation have both been approached for comment.
