Comments: :) :) Zinsky, we did that all the time in Tabriz. One year, it had snowed all the way to the windows which were about a meter and a half above ground level. We would stand in the window and pee from there into the yard. ![]() I think Zanjan is also very very cold. It is in a wide open space where always wind picked up on our way to Tabriz. Always was very cold. The last time I drove from Tehran to Tabriz was a few years ago and we stopped in Zanjan for lunch. It is at a perfect spot between Tehran and Tabriz. There was a restaurant that I remembered from my childhood right at the beginning of the town. It was still there and the chelokabab was still fantastic. Great memories there.
Comments: I used to go to Zanjan almost every summer!!! Can’t type until Tuesday.
Comments: I used to Zanjan almost every summer. Once we went during the winter. I can’t remember exactly which year but it was at least couple of years before revolution. Overnight, it snowed about 1.5 to 2 meters. As a kid, I could not get out of the house until they cleared a path. I loved it but I’m sure parents were not happy. Oh by the way, the only bathroom was on the other side of the yard. No way we could go there. I assume for a day or two we used the snow as the bathroom.

Comments: In Tabriz, we regularly had temperatures below zero where win chil factor would place us in the -10 to -20 degrees celcius. About every other year, we would have snow in Norouz. You do not see that now a days.
Comments: In Tehran, we regularly had snow about half a dozen times a winter. Some were very heavy. I remember one where cars were buried under the snow. Dismissing that as anomalous, you still have a total accumulation of about a foot per year. You do not see anything like that now. If it happens, it would be the anomaly.
Comments: For Boston winters, I can tell u that we had some major winter storms (I would say at least five per year) where we got dumped on enough for them to close schools in 1999-2001. In addition we also had about a dozen minor snow storms where we got an inch or two but life went on as normal. This was just 24 years ago. I do not see anything like that in the horizon for you guys now.
Comments: I think what we are looking at is a gradual but major weather shift globally. I say gradual only because it is a wishful thinking, but all the information I have seen is that at some point, there will be a sudden major shift. A lot of people will die then. But assuming a gradual shift, what I already see here in SD is the departure of the continuously mild weather and instead we have colder winters and hotter+humid summers. We are sort of becoming like the mid west except that we do not have the rain (yet). The lastfew years has seen consistently increasing rain between November and March. Let's see how this year will be.

Comments: I can only go back to what winters looked like in Tehran when I was a kid. It was cold with lots of snow in northern parts of the city. We actually had snow storms that would dump 1/2 meters or more of snow overnight. I don’t think Tehran has seen anything like that in 30 years. People who lived here for 30+ years are telling stories about sub zero and 2-3 foot of snow for 4-5 months a year. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not looking for anything like that. I’ll be happy with 4-5 snow storms a year max but the last few years I’ve been here winters are getting shorter and milder with much less snow each year.
Comments: Zinsky, if I did not know where u live, I would have thought you are talking about Georgia or somewhere in the south!

Comments: Faramarz, It’s been dry and mild in Boston for the past couple of weeks. We had 2-3 nights below freezing but also had 70s in November! Predictions are that it will be a mild (40s and 50s) most of the winter. I’m hoping for more rain/snow as the lakes are drying up around town. This week will be low 40s and high 50s. Some rain is expected! The strangest thing was the Halloween being in high 70s, near 80s! If Tran’s continues, winter will be a thing of a past for this area in 10-15 years!
Comments: Just a glimpse of the perspective from outside in, here is a communication I received from a collaborator in Sweden: "I am concerned by the choice of the Minister of Health; he doesn't have a good reputation here in Europe." This is putting it widely.
