European Economist on msnbc just said this.
European companies do 22% of their business in US n out of that 10 to 15% of those products built in US anyways which tariffs do not target, on the other hand US company sell around 30% or more of their products in EU.
He basically said good luck to US if EU commission starts retaliatory tariffs

Hamvatan, I ave exactly the same concerns: China and Russia filling the void while village idiot is beating his chest. If China takes over the top economic spot, I do not thin USA will be able to get it back. I also thin that we will see and incrementally forceful China on the world political stage. I also think that we will see that US' lap dog, europe, will gradually become China's lap dog accelerating US' downfall.
As for "EU is still acting as US lap dog. ", once a vulture, always a vulture. It is in their nature. So, I think we will see them continue being lame and taking the second seat.
Your Canada suggestion is interesting. I am not sure what role they will play in a world of US decline. I suspect that they too will continue taking the back seat.

Reza, I believe each person around Trump has his agenda. But for Trump himself, it is all about him. He has this need to always be the hero. Without it, he feels little. It is a classic sign of khod kam bini. We have seen this among some in IFP's past too. Common psychological problem.
Problem is that he is too dim to figure out ways to improve things. So, he destroys in the hope that when destruction stops, everything will automate back to an improved normal and so he can say it was him and be a hero.
Unfortunately, the biggest power in the world is currently hostage to the character flaws of an extremely insecure individual with a lot of mental issues.
