I’ve had plenty of discussions about medical and pharmaceutical issues. I’m kind of in the middle but I have family members who believe doctors and pharmaceuticals are actually trying to make people sick. Others, who believe they are gods and one should not even ask anything.
I can only say that people used to die much younger before all the advances in medicine.

Good morning everyone and evening to our doctor in the house! Has a nice ring to it. Farid jAn congratulations again. I was hoping you'd side with the anti vaxer. [rofl] May be you will change your opinion once you get your license? [smile]

Fuck, now I have to make an appointment to get my vaccine.

By the way I think Pope just died of pneumonia.

Faramarz, to answer your question, I must first say that I am not a doctor yet. 🫠

I will get my medical license in a few months. So, my advice right now can only be the advice of a person who is not licensed to practice medicine. But for whatever that is worth, I would do the pneumonia shot. I would make sure that it is either  Prevnar20 (PCV20) or Capvaxive (PCV21). The first one protects against 20 bacterial strains and the latter against 21. Prevnar20 is recommended for all adults older than 50 and in some specific cases of compromised immunity for younger ages. PCV21 is recommended for adults 19 years and older. I think this is a bit of overkill, although this vaccine provides protection for eight strains that other vaccines do not.

For reasons we do not understand, the incidence of pneumococcal disease case among adults between 50 and 64 years of age has sharply increased. It is now a significant portion of pneumococcal disease. Getting pneumonia is no fun and could lead to other complications like permanent lung damage and/or activation of TB who have latent TB infection. These are serious risks. The vaccine is quite safe and has exceedingly rare side effects. So, in shot I strongly recommend the vaccine for all you in your young ages.

Since mid 90s or around that time, US became only a consumer based economy. No innovation, no manufacturing, nothing worth selling overseas. The rest of the world is looking at US as a market to sell their stuff. It works for a while as Americans could buy stuff. Slowly but surely, the buying power of American is decreasing. It is true there is mismatch in the trade but not because “they” are cheating but because we have nothing worth trading.
Weapons are still a source of income for us plus the tourism & higher education. We can trade weapons with China, tourism is slowing down due to scary immigration policies and international students are leaving US due to stupid rules set by this administration.
I was told by two Iranian professors (MIT and Harvard) that they are getting offers from Canada, Australia and other countries to teach in their universities.
All of us here could have been in the same situation. We could have been deported or worse. We could have lived in some other country. Can you calculate the amount of wealth and brain power that would be?
Iran is the worse as far as brain drain and US used to be the best to attract the best people from around the world. It’s all over.

Let’s get one thing straight:
Tariffs aren’t a strategy. They’re a signal.
And what they’re signaling right now is panic dressed up as policy.
Tariffs on China were sold to the public as a silver bullet—an economic wall to protect domestic jobs, punish unfair practices, and "bring manufacturing back home."
But here’s what’s actually happening behind the headlines:
1. American Consumers Are Paying the Price
Tariffs don’t get absorbed in Beijing. They get passed on in Birmingham.
That extra 10%, 25%, or 50% on imports? It’s showing up in your everyday bills.
Phones, cars, tools, appliances, even food. Tariffs are a tax on us. Period.
2. U.S. Companies Are Getting Squeezed
From small businesses to industrial giants, the cost of inputs is going up.
Supply chains are in limbo. Margins are getting thinner.
Some companies are relocating—not to the U.S., but to Vietnam, Mexico, India.
The reshuffling isn’t patriotic. It’s survival.
3. China Isn’t Folding—It’s Reinventing
The belief that economic pressure would bring China to its knees? Delusional.
Instead, China accelerated its domestic innovation agenda.
It’s investing trillions in AI, semiconductors, EVs, and renewable energy.
They’re not just reacting—they’re rearchitecting.
You can’t tariff your way out of a tech gap.
4. The Global South Is Watching—and Moving
While the West fights over tariffs, China is cutting deals in Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia.
It’s building infrastructure, buying loyalty, and reshaping the global trade map.
Sanctions and tariffs are pushing China to become less dependent—and more dangerous as a competitor.
5. The U.S. Is Playing Checkers in a Game of Go
This isn’t a tit-for-tat trade war anymore. It’s an ideological and economic realignment.
The U.S. is trying to isolate China.
China is trying to replace the system entirely.
And guess what? In many parts of the world, that pitch is working.
This is the backfire. The boomerang. The cost of short-term thinking.
Tariffs are a 20th-century tool being used in a 21st-century fight.
And we’re swinging it like a club while China is designing circuit boards, building alliances, and writing the next chapter of globalization.
This isn't about picking sides. It's about seeing the full board.
If the goal is American strength, then it’s time to stop fighting fire with gasoline.
Real power isn't in blockades. It’s in breakthroughs.
It’s not about walls—it’s about wins: economic, technological, diplomatic.
We don’t win by trying to slow China down.
We win by speeding ourselves up.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth shared detailed plans about a military operation against the Houthis in Yemen on a second Signal group chat that included his wife, lawyer and brother, three people familiar with the chat told CNN.
The revelation comes as some of Hegseth’s closest advisers have begun sounding the alarm about the secretary’s judgment, including his former press secretary, John Ullyot, and three former senior officials Hegseth fired last week — his top adviser Dan Caldwell, deputy chief of staff Darin Selnick, and Colin Carroll, who served as chief of staff to the deputy secretary of defense.
