Most of us miss the point when it comes to people living in Iran. Every time I mention that US is only after its own benefits and is not there to help Iran or Iranians, I get the same answer. Small sample I can gather from my own family and friends are very much united in the concept of “so what?”! They look at me and say, “Iran is being raped by Mullahs, their families AND by Russia, China and the rest. It’s has been ravaged by them for 47 years!”.
They believe no matter what US does to them can’t be worse than this. They might be right or wrong but they truly believe it can’t get much worse than this. The evidence is the years before the revolution. U.S. and the West were indeed stealing from us in large quantities but still they left enough crumbs for the population to live much better than today. 

Iranians are mostly pro west. They feel closer to western culture and western style than the east. 6 million people have left Iran since 1970s. Almost 95% chose western countries like US, EU, Canada, Australia, …

It is sad to admit that Iran has zero chance of being independent. That dream has been gone for a long time.
