Comments: Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Iran national football team head coach Dragan Skocic says that they are working hard to prepare the team for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. Iran matches against Hong Kong and Cambodia at the 2022 World Cup qualifiers have been postponed to June. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has rescheduled the matches due to coronavirus concerns but has yet to release an official statement on the status of the games. “We are waiting for AFC’s final decision about the competition. The Croat and Iran coaching staff are attending the league competition. “We’re watching all the matches to find the best possible solution for our team. We work hard to prepare Iran national team for the qualifiers,” he stated. The four remaining matches will be held in a centralized venue. Iran has offered the Asian Football Confederation to host the matches. “It will work out in our favor to host the matches but it doesn’t matter to us if we have to play anywhere else,” Skocic concluded. Iran sit third in Group C behind Iraq and Bahrain.

Comments: The point of a vaccine is more than you not getting sick. It is also to prevent transmission to others. Before, it was unclear whether vaccines prevent transmission but now the data is emerging. As everyone expected, and no one wanted to say it without evidence, vaccines significantly reduce viral load. They also significantly reduce or entirely eliminate symptoms which are the vehicles of transmission. The two combined will not make the likelihood of transmission zero, but awfully low, enough to drive us out of the pandemic.

Comments: I do agree more restrictions, specially during the summer/fall would have had a big effect. Unfortunately, politics was stronger than science. We could have done it in a way to avoid harsh punishments but enough to get people to notice. I am not sure if I would be part of any group to get vaccine anytime soon. Not old enough, not sick enough, not working in any business that requires it... My kids got theirs as healthcare providers.

Comments: Zinsky jAn, I am sure that you have seen social media videos showing how India enforced masking through beating and all. On the first look, that looked uncivilized and more of a comedy. But when I look at the graph that I posted, how well Asia in particular has done (notice the early bump for them, and how everyone said this is going to kill millions in India) and compare that to how US and europe has done, in particular US approaching the half million mark, I can't help but wonder: Would those who died, their families, friends, etc. have preferred the government to take a similarly strict approach to the shutdown? I know I would. Clearly this is a spectrum and you do not have to go out beating people. But I find it criminal to not only not put no restrictions but also deny the whole thing and tell people that the authorities who are making you stay at home and wear masks are your enemies. They, led by trump, are responsible for all these deaths.
