Comments: It seems that sanctions might not be enough, at least in short term. It also seems that most other countries relying on Ukrainians to fight like Afghans. I’m not sure anyone would fight like Afghans. Putin doesn’t have to occupy Ukraine. It only needs to change the regime.

Comments: The special Russian operation in Ukraine under Artilcle 7, item 50 of the UN charter is a good warning for Taiwan, Bahrain and the UAE. China will be more aggressive to protect the Chinese population in Taiwan. Iran will be ready to help the large Iranian ethnic populatioon in Bahrain and the UAE if they request their assistant. The lesson is don't be a tool of non-regional players since they will not come to your help once you get in trouble. NATO is telling Ukraine you are on your own.

Comments: The Ukraine situation is multi-faceted. It is a fact that the US has been in war for more than 200 years of their independence simply at times of economic desperation. Take a look at inflation today, a fertile ground to set up a war. They have already inserted their terror groups composed of takfiries in Ukraine. Erdogan of Turkey has been instrumental in this affair. The Americans have been at it for a while in instigating Ukraine against Russia from the colorful revolution to encourage them to join NATO. NATO's expansion into the Russian border? This by itself is against their own previous signatures. The neutrality in the Ukraine situation will encourage China to do the same with Taiwan and this worries the US. This will definitely happen the minute the US gets busy with her Ukraine involvement. One other ramification of this war is that now, Russia says he does not recognize the Golan heights. That's after Israel declared support for Ukraine, saying what Russia is doing is a serious breach of international laws. Look who's talking? So, the issue may trigger the Iran-Syria incursion into the region to regain the Heights! This most probably triggers an Israeli response by bombing Iran and we may know what the counter response will entails.

Comments: Shahryar, totally agree on the excitement issue. I do also think that everyone will treat the first round as part of the qualifications. I also wonder what this will do to the attendance in the stadiums. Already some games like the Iran-Morroco game do not have full capacity audience. This is even though they are held in low capacity (about 40K) stadiums. Increasing teh number to 48 and having some games be against the likes of Bahrain and UAE, what will that do to the attendance? It cannot be good!
Comments: DM really nice overview of both Daei's situation and the world cup drawing. I am curious, did they ever reveal why the sardar had been given a new identity? That sounds crazy! On the WC draw, I totally agree. I think this new format serves UEFa and the south americans. They got what they have been asking for a long time. I think getting out of a group of three for an Asian team will become even harder than it is now.  But I also worry about the backlash of inviting 8 or even worse 9 from Asia to the WC. For a continent consistently doing very poorly will result in lobbies for other continents to take over the Asian share! Imagine for example Bahrain in there! Constant rolling on the ground to save a 0-0 draw from minute 1 would look so bad!

Comments: On the subject of Ali Daei: In May 2019, Saipa Team fired Daei following his comments after Zob Ahan match, criticizing the club’s general manager and other officials for various major issues as well as not paying the players’ wages. However, the issues was much deeper and involved, especially at national and international politics level and stages. Here is what the issue was: It was reported and revealed by several national media outlets and publication sources that when Daei (unknowingly, emphasis unknowingly) revealed the true (name) identity of the Saipa Team's general manager while questioning how has this person suddenly become the general manager team without any background knowledge of football and overnight. Later, when media and publication outlets became curious and looked deeper into the matter, it turned out that the said general manager had been given a change of identity for various national security concerns and was suddenly appointed to the general manager position at Saipa. As a result, Daei was forced to step down and fired 5 days later after he unknowingly said what he said. There has been no further reporting on this incidence since 2019. As HAMVATAN and several of you pointed out, Ali Daei, doesn't like to be bullied and is a direct and no-nonsense individual and always looks and puts those who he cares for or supervises first.
