شخصى رنگ‌پریده نزد امیرالمؤمنین (ع) آمد و گفت من همیشه بیمارم و دردهاى بسیارى دارم، به من دعایى بیاموز که با آن، بر بیماری‌هایم یارى جویم. حضرت فرمود: به تو دعایى مى‏ آموزم که جبرئیل وقتى حسن و حسین بیمار بودند به پیامبر صلّى اللّه علیه و آله آموخت و آن دعا این است:
