Comments: Faramarz, sorry about the late reply. Even though it is sad to see Majidi leave the Blue, it is best for him to leave while on top. He has satisfied the fans with this championship. It’s been tremendous. As much as I dislike our footballers in general and this coach in particular, contributing to the Arab leagues, he needs the experience. I hope to see him back one day!

Comments: The heavy rain probably had a lot to do with it.
Comments: Wales scores against the run of play on a free kick through an own goal by the Ukrainian captain.
Comments: Ukraine has had a few one on one chances but their forwards are not that good. They could really use the Taremi-Sardar duo. :) Lots of pressure by Ukraine now for the past 5 minutes.
Comments: Ukraine is playing very cohesive like we did under CQ. If they can maintain this for 90 minutes, they will be a difficult opponent for most teams.
Comments: Either one of these teams is 3 goals better than our current arrangement. We will definitely lose to either so, to me it does not matter who wins from that aspect.
Comments: Ukraine just missed a great one on one.
Comments: As expected, the ref is kind to Ukraine.
Comments: Both keepers have had good saves already. More saves for the Wales Keeper.
Comments: This is a great game. End to end. Very exciting.
Comments: Ukraine started well and scored a goal that the referee disallowed. Now Wales is gaining its footing. Why is the game in Wales anyway? Where there is only a single game, it doesn't make sense.
Comments: Faramarz JAn, Good point regarding the "English" style. I only saw one game from Ukraine and that was against Scotland last week. I saw three games from Wales, and felt they were stronger, at least in those games, which were from last year and earlier this year. I actually think we can do batter against Ukraine; but am worried about off0the field issues that will be against us and in favor of Ukraine. By the way, I believe Iran and Canada were the only WZ-bound teams without a friendly this weekend.
Comments: As for england, what I posted was about the post group stage. Within the group, Iran and USA will be crap and so, they should not have any trouble advancing. Ukraine will give them a run for their money though, if they advance. But Wales will be like an illigitimate child to the english. They will lose every time. With regard to our group, In all honesty, I think england belongs somewhere between 20th and 30th in the world. Iran and USA should both be around 50. England will simply win because of that. I do not think it has anything to do with intelligence but rather better preparation, more experience at the higher lavel and confidence that you can win. Nwo, USA with all the preparation will still be ranked around 50, but with the right coach and okay preparation, Iran can also be in range with england. In that scenario, I think Iran would have the edge against england because the english would come into the game with a false sense of superiority. But right now they are really better than us because we have no organization, no preparation, and most importantly, no coach.
Comments: Sharyar jAn, I just saw your posts. I am watching at least the first half. Then as a tork, I have to attend to my barbari and then heading to the more important game, my soccer game, where we eat more calories than spend on the field! I know nothing about Wales. But Ukraine has a stronger recent history of football. They showed this against Scottland. Among mediocre teams, I far more like the style of eastern european teams than those from western europe. So, I prefer Ukraine, even though they will be much harder opponent for us. But if Wales is a stronger team, more power to them. I just get tired of the bankrupt english style of the game. Scottland displayed that to perfection. We'll see how well Wales will demonstrate that today. :)
Comments: For the U23 team, what I saw was a complete lack of chemistry. It was a dog eat dog environment where every player was for himself. I did not see any team chemistry. This may be partially because players in Iran develop their individual skills but there is no one to teach them team tactics. How and why to pay with others. They reminded me of a good friend who on our Sunday games every time he gets the ball, he shouts: be hichki nemikhAm pAs bedam.
Comments: ESPN is showing the game. |
