Both democrats and republicans have screwed up education system big time.
Schools as Faramarz pointed are for profit (for management) and athletics.
1. Big public schools pay tens of millions to coaches (more than pros in some instances) and spend like crazy on their programs. Attract academically unqualified students (on scholarship) at the expense of a qualified one.
2. Kids from middle class (like us) who pay most of the taxes do not get any financial assistance, less consideration in admission (even less chance than out of state since they pay more) due various reasons: the area they go to school (lower income areas get lower GPA requirements and higher quota), or if they are first generation college going vs, parents with Phd or graduate degrees,...
3. I cannot understand that instead of stupid handouts they do not work on making public schools accountable on costs and keeping tuitions in control and provide 0% government loans to students with long term payment plan. Heck they give 0% loans to banks and corps and give them lots of tax break along with it. Basically free money for them.

More than anything else, the cost of college has skyrocketed in the past 30+ years. The next outrageous price increase is housing and lastly healthcare.
I went to college in the 80s-90s (BS & MS). Tuition at the time was less than a $1,000!!! It is at least 20 times that now. Some universities tuition is almost $100K considering other costs.
Housing is also crazy. A friend of mine bought an old, old house in La Jolla in early 80s. It had nearly 2 acre land on the top of the hill over looking the ocean. The house was a piece of you know what. He paid $300k!!!
He lived in it for 25 years. Completely demolished the house, spent nearly 2 million on a new house and it’s worth 20 million now.
And finally, Healthcare! Even with employment insurance, most pay hundreds of dollars per month and still pay deductions and extras.
Most are happy that they pay less taxes than Europeans. I did my own calculations and considering the cost of childcare (0-5), college (4-6 years), health insurance for most of one’s life, I would be more than happy to pay 50% taxes and get those for free.

Education in this country is a disaster. It is all a plan for making money. Even state schools are like that. They all run an enterprise that is geared towards athletics and management.
Given how much we pay in taxes, education should be free, but we instead pay for education from money that has already been taxed!

They have canceled the election for FF head.
Evidently FIFA has warned Iran in the last minute about Taj being allowed to run due to his background.
I copy the reasons from another site :
Taj's candidacy was in complete disregard of the IFF statute and Iranian judicial orders.
Despite the fact that he has several breaches, these two stand out:
1. The 2020 IFF statute disqualifies any candidate who has previously held the office of president three times.
Taj served in office three times before giving the excuse of a hearth issue.
"Taj's first threeterms should not be considered'', according to the lower committee, and the calendar should be reset for 2020.
The issue was that, if the calendar were reset, he would not have the five years of experience necessary.
Three number of applicants reported infractions, which were then disregarded.
2. According to FIFA rules and the Iranian judicial system, candidates who have been convicted of a crime or who are the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation cannot be permitted to run for president of the IFF.
Taj has open criminal cases, which the IFF and lower commitee were informed about, but the lower commitee chose to overlook.
Finally, the judicial department informed IFF by formal letter that Taj's criminal case was still pending.
The Taj case is not as difficult to understand as some claim.
With his claim that he would hire CQ if elected, Taj was quite successful in misleading CQ's ardent supporters. In reality, Taj stands a much better chance of going to jail than becoming the president of the IFF.
