Comments: Iran's regime faces a multi-flank attack today, with student protests turning into general unrest, and rallies taking place in 150 cities around the world. Protests and strikes at around 100 universities Saturday morning turned into street demonstrations as students left the campuses and moved into streets. Universities were scenes of strikes, as classes resumed on the first day of the week. Students entered campuses but refused to attend lectures. Instead, they began protesting. By early afternoon they began moving into streets and ordinary people joined them, in waht appears to be general unrest in the capital Tehran and other cities. Crowds outside university gates were present to support the students since the morning but their numbers grew in the afternoon, as videos from the capital showed. Saturday was the first day in the two-week-old antigovernment movement when large numbers of protesters came into the streets during the day, instead of the usual evening and night hours. This shows a higher degree of defiance and self-confidence by the people. A general strike also commenced in Kurdish towns and cities in the west of the country and more street demonstrations are expected throughout the day and especially in the evening. The killing of dozens of Sunni Baluchi protesters in Zahedan, southeast Iran on Friday, shocked the country and was the first mass killing in one location since the protests began two weeks ago. It intensified demonstrations Friday evening that began on September 16, when Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman died in hospital after receiving fatal wounds in the custody of Iran's hijab police. A social media account has claimed 42 people were killed on Friday and has published their names. Rallies in support of Iranian protesters already took place in Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Jakarta on Saturday and many large gatherings are taking place in Europe and later in North America. Here we will provide live coverage of street protests, by posting news and tweets as we receive them.

Comments: *رنسانسی در ایران بالاتر و بهتر از رنسانس اروپا در راه است* *آیا انقلاب اسلامی یک باخت تاریخی را برای ما رقم زد، و یا یک فرصتی را هم ایجاد کرد؟* پاسخ من این است که بعد از انقلاب به طور ناخواسته و پنهان یک راه میانبر تاریخی به سوی توسعه گشوده شده است. *نه جامعه آگاهانه این راه را خواسته بود و نه حکومت! اما تعامل بین حکومت و جامعه راه را باز کرد.* اصلیترین عامل شکست توسعه، سنتهای غیرعقلانی هستند. سنتها حافظان بسیار قدرتمندی دارند. جمهوری اسلامی کمک کرد تا حافظان تاریخی سنت در جامعه ما یا تضعیف شوند و یا حذف شوند و سنت بی دفاع مانده است تا لاجرم جامعه ما به سمت دنیای مدرن حرکت کند و با سنت های ضدتوسعه خداحافظی کند. *این تحول در اروپا ۴۰۰ سال طول کشید ولی ما در طول ۴۰ سال گذشته زمینههای این تحول را در ایران ایجاد کردیم.* *در دوران جمهوری اسلامی، جهشی عظیم در فراهمآوری زمینههای لازم برای مدرنیته رخ داده است که هیچ نظام دیگری به غیر نظام دینی با رهبری فقها نمیتوانست چنین تحولی را با این سرعت ایجاد کند.* این تحول را رضاشاه آغاز کرد و محمدرضا شاه ادامه داد اما هر دو شکست خوردند، چون به گونهای عمل کردند که باعث انسجام و اتحاد تمام نیروهای محافظ سنت شدند و یک جبهه مستحکم در برابر تحولات دنیای مدرن شکل گرفت. انقلاب اسلامی هم به نوعی حاصل همین اتحاد بود. *مهمترین خدمت جمهوری اسلامی این بود که نیروهای حافظ سنت را نخست از هم جدا کرد و سپس یک به یک آن ها را نابود کرد.* در دوران جمهوری اسلامی چهار تحول مهم رخ داده که زمینههای تحقق نوگرایی و مدرنیته را فراهم کرده است. تحولاتی که حتی در ترکیه، پاکستان، مصر و کشورهایی با ساختار سیاسی مدرنتر از ایران هم رخ نداده است. *سه مورد اول آن تضعیف، تخریب و حذف حافظان سنت است و تحول چهارم تحول در کیفیت دینداری ایرانیان است.* *اصلی ترین حافظان سنت،* *زنان،روستاییان و روحانیان هستند.* زنان از بقیه قدرتمندتر عمل میکنند. جمهوری اسلامی نخست زنان را به نیروهای خط شکن تحولات مدرنیته تبدیل کرد. پهلوی اول قدرت عشایر را زیاد کرد، پهلوی دوم زمین داران را رونق داد و *جمهوری اسلامی عامه روستاییان را شهر نشین کرد* . پیش بینی من این است که با این روند تا ۲۰ سال آینده کمتر از پنج درصد جمعیت روستایی خواهند بود. *سومین حافظ سنت روحانیان بودند که در دو سطح مراجع و روحانیان محلی فعالیت میکردند. تقریبا جایگاه مراجع به عنوان سرمایههای نمادین که تحول آفرین بودند، از دست رفته است.* بخشی از مراجع که با حکومت زاویه داشتند را حکومت تخریب کرد و بخشی از مراجع که مردم فکر میکردند حکومتی هستند، را هم مردم تخریب کردند. روحانیان محلی هم که محل رجوع عامه بودند به علت عملکرد نامناسب روحانیان حکومتی، نزد مردم بی اعتبار شده اند. *تحول بسیار بنیادیتری که رخ داده است که تنها و تنها در یک حاکمیت دینی و فقهی امکانپذیر بود و هیچ حکومت دیگری نمیتوانست این تحول را ایجاد کند،* *«جدایی ایمان از شریعت» است.* در طول تاریخ ایران، ایمان و شریعت به هم چسبیده بوده است، اما جمهوری اسلامی کمک کرد، تا جدایی ایمان از شریعت رخ بدهد که تحولی بسیار عظیم بوده است. *این تحول بسیار عمیقتر از تحقق سکولاریسم در اروپاست.* *در سکولاریسم، جدایی دین از سیاست رخ داد ولی در ایران جدایی ایمان از شریعت رخ داده است.* *امروز با نسل روبه افزایشی از جوانانی رو به رو هستیم که ایمان دارند، ولی مناسک دینی را انجام نمیدهند.* *خانوادههای آن ها نیز پذیرفتهاند که جوانان آن ها تنها ایمان اخلاقی داشته باشند. *ایمان با توسعه سازگار است.* دکتر محسن رنانی
