Comments: i agree with Faramarz's assessment. This is not the first time vatanforoosh people are trying to "sell out" to gain entry back into the country and start stealing again.
Comments: I have heard that the formal request for banning Iran came form some Iranians. These may actually be some khod foroush mojahedin operating with UAE money.
Comments: Yes. It would work better for the regime if they are banned. Another excuse to say marg bar… The motivation for the ones asking for the ban is not logical but again…
Comments: My statement below should have read: "...look as the victims..."
Comments: Real Rahgozar Axix, Are you saying the current Iranian government wants our TM to be disqualified, so we will not get any worldwide exposure? Come to think of it, it does make sense. When Iran is playing their first game against England, you can be sure that there will be numerous signs and flags around the stadium protesting Iran regime and perhaps even players do something, which will not be wise. Those will be undesirable events for the government, and the only way to prevent them is to ban Iran team. But on the other hand, those who want Iran banned from WC, want this because they want Iranian people mad at their regime and start a revolution. That can certainly NOT be good for them either. In summary, Iran is in a lose-lose situation, and the only solution for them is to admit they made mistakes, take some measures to do "Damage Control" (which is probably too late now), and make some concessions. But one has to be smart to be able to do that. I still do not believe that Iran will be banned; it may make the government look at the victims and they will use that against the West saying, "see, everyone is against us".
Comments: Shahryar khan I think what Faramarz and Zinsky are saying makes sense. Iran in the world showcase at this time is not a good thing for the government. Specially that they have to televise it live.
Comments: I’m surprised some group hasn’t released a full list of all regime family members living in USA and Canada with their addresses. That should do the trick.
Comments: A Canadian journalist has criticized Ottawa for spreading a “lush welcome mat” for rich Iranians linked to the regime but refusing visas to relatives of Flight PS752 victims. In May this year, General Morteza Mirian, commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards’ ground forces, claimed that 4,000 relatives of “senior officials”live in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Comments: The fact is that the West doesn’t want them gone. They have helped them gain and keep power. They don’t give a damn about Iranians. Simple…
Comments: The only way I see this government and it’s leaders are pressured is by freezing their assets around the world. Sending all their relatives back to Iran and make it easier for ordinary Iranians to travel outside the country. Make them prisoners in their own country while welcoming all others. It’s not like the West doesn’t have a comprehensive list of all members of the regime and their families. Round them up, put them in a plane and send them home. Keep their money and use it in some way to help average people.
Comments: Shahryar, Only think I can say is that UAE really wants this. They have unlimited money and as we all know, money talks. The anti government forces are pushing this to put pressure on Iran but I just don’t see how that helps anyone. If this government was anything normal, they would care how the rest of the world sees them. It’s pretty obvious that is not their concern.
Comments: I hear a lot of noise from various sources about Iran being banned from World Cup. That is all they are...., Noise! There is no way Iran can or will be banned from World Cup; FIFA cannot and will not ban Iran. it is a ridiculous idea being rumored to put some pressure on Iran's government by its people, since the people love the game so much. The biggest problem with this rumor is that it is assuming that the Government of Iran cares about the game, or they care about what people want.

There is no endgame, no plan to change the situation. We are spiralling into a wider war and an economic depression. I think the best first step would be to end the economic sanctions imposed on Iran. They have failed. Violence and brutality and the suffering of the Iranian people are their only product (“EU warns Iran of more sanctions over alleged weapon supplies to Russia”, Report, FT.com, October 17). Ending sanctions would drop the price of oil and ease tensions in the Middle East. Second, the west must change course on the war in Ukraine. No matter what people think of who is right or wrong, the war is pushing the world into both economic chaos and dangerous avenues. Offering a solution that begins with dropping sanctions on Russia, restores its access to the Swift banking system, and allows freedom of movement could provide its leaders with a face-saving opportunity to end the war. A ceasefire based on a negotiated settlement to be arranged in 2023 would provide a point of readjustment for all concerned, both Nato members and the US and Russia. This would give the world economy a breathing space for recovery and drop energy costs and arrest inflation. Comments: I agree. I think the government is more than willing to forgo the WC. There will be lots of demonstrations against iran during the games. They also prefer less gatherings in Iran. No WC, no big crowds.
Comments: I actually think these are pretty weak argument both and have been both used for years without any consequence. They can defend the women thing by saying we r not letting anyone in. It is not just women. And the Government managing the federation, they can point to TAj's election and the fact that FIFA actually said TAj is qualified to run and pushed him into the election. I find these pretty weak arguments. But if they set up a hearing and the government actually not show up or do an intentionally crappy job, that is a whole other issue. I think it is likely that government may not show up to defend. TM in the world cup is not a good thing for the government right now. |
