Comments: Porto seal top spot, dump miserable Atletico out of EuropeTue, November 1, 2022 at 12:49 PM Taremi is all over this article; he is the real deal! Bayer Leverkusen drew 0-0 with second-placed surprise package Club Brugge in the other game, moving level with Atletico on five points and finishing ahead of them on head-to-head, leaving the Spanish side bottom of a group which they expected to win. The two prior times Atletico were knocked out in the group stage they went on to win the Europa League, in 2009-10 and 2017-18, but this limp defeat ensured they cannot find similar consolation this season. "We did not deserve to reach the last 16 or even the Europa League, that's how it is, if you only win one group game then that's what you get," admitted Atletico forward Antoine Griezmann, speaking to Movistar. "Now we have to focus hard, work, shut our mouths and fight. We are a difficult team to face if we believe it, we all work, if we all row in the same direction with the coach. "We're all proud to work with him and at this club but we have to show it on the pitch." It is the first time Atletico have finished bottom of the group in the Champions League, with more questions than ever being asked of Simeone, who has been at the helm since December 2011. "They were better, they beat us well, we are deservedly last in the group," Simeone told Movistar. "We have to learn (from it). Europe is behind us, La Liga is coming and we have a game on Sunday where we have to pick ourselves up in the league." The Argentine coach handed Joao Felix a rare start, impressed by the Portuguese forward's impact even as Atletico lost 3-2 against Cadiz on Saturday. However he, like the rest of Atletico's team, was thoroughly outplayed at the Estadio do Dragao, with only goalkeeper Jan Oblak stopping the hosts racking up a bigger first-half lead. Mehdi Taremi struck after just five minutes, turning home Evanilson's pass from close range for his fifth goal of the group stage. Porto could have doubled their advantage against a shaken Atletico when Taremi's clever reverse pass played in Galeno, but Oblak saved superbly with his feet. With the visitors struggling to string together more than a few passes, it was no surprise when the second goal came, driven home by Canada international Stephen Eustaquio after being teed up by Galeno. Porto should have grabbed a third when the excellent Taremi set up Evanilson, but the Brazilian forward slashed an effort over the crossbar. Griezmann drove home for Atletico but the goal was ruled out for a foul in the build-up as Simeone's side started to show some belated signs of life. The game turned into an end to end clash as Atletico's desperation increased, while Porto sought another goal to put the game beyond doubt. Angel Correa forced a save from Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who also denied Yannick Carrasco, while Evanilson missed another clear chance when he headed straight at Oblak. The Slovenian goalkeeper was at his very best, unlike his colleagues, making further impressive saves to keep Porto at bay, as he was left exposed. Porto conceded in stoppage time when Ivan Marcano headed a corner into his own net, but unlike last season, when two late goals earned Atletico passage to the last 16, they could not complete the comeback. "We did our best and got the win, our ambition was to win the group and luckily we managed that," said in-form Porto striker Taremi. "As I've always said, I work for the team, I do my best and then the goals come. This is my job. I thank my team-mates who help me score goals."
Comments: Faramarz JAn, I agree that speech could have ben done a lot better. I also didn't like the way she approached the overall subject. It felt like she had an "agenda", which to me, takes away from the real; struggle that should be addressed.

Comments: She did demonstrate though that she can talk the talk and so, I see a bright future for her in the American political and/or public stage. She can also be the mouthpiece of this or another movement. But there has to be a lot more behind the scenes for he intent to succeed. This is just a show.
Comments: Zinsky jAn, exactly my point. Well said. If elections mattered, they would not let us do it.
Comments: I hate to agree that all decisions are made based on financial gain. Very few, if any, care for people’s life and livelihood. That is true locally or internationally. This regime will only change when the rest of the world decides it’s better for them financially. From oil and gas to other possible ways to make money, we are in the middle of the worse neighborhood. Human rights (women rights) are not a determining factor. Even in this country, no laws are pass purely to help average Joe! Deep down in the laws, someone or a industry is pushing to make more money. We have been fooled for so long to believe our voices matter. Unfortunately, we are just electing one side of the same coin.
Comments: Shahryar khan Thanks for sharing. A very powerful speech.
Comments: This is definitely better than that crazy woman who claims IRI tried to kill her. It is at least a great representation for herself and a bit for Iranian people. But I found the speech in itself lame for what the Iranians hope for it to do. It started with Rhetoric and then shifted over to stating the obvious or at least what many assume to be the case already. So, with this speech she did not change anyone's mind. The main reason for this is that reasons such as freedom and women's rights are not going to go anywhere with American politicians. No war has started because of these and none will be won because of it either. So, in that sense, this speech was like Biden's lame argument for democracy for the coming midterm elections-lame. The people who have the power to make the decisions aren't swayed by these arguments and instead look at the bottom lines. Is a regime change in Iran going to help their bottom line? If the answer is no, this effort is wasted on American politicians. If someone really means to instigate a regime change by the west, they need to do their fiscal homework and present and estimation of how and why the change would be beneficial to the pockets of the west.

Comments: A Chilling Crackdown at a Tehran Apartment Complex Iran’s security forces shot at windows and threw stun grenades in a raid at the Shahrak Ekbatan complex, where a member of the feared Basij militia was killed last week, residents said. The family of four was watching television at home in central Tehran on Sunday night when a series of big explosions outside rattled their windows. The mother grabbed her two children and ducked under the dining table. The husband peeked out from a window to see what was going on and several laser dots flashed on his body — a warning from the security forces arrayed outside his apartment block that he had been spotted. He joined a chorus of voices from other apartments chanting “death to the dictator,” the antigovernment cry that has been taken up by thousands of protesters across Iran for more than a month. The husband and wife, in interviews by telephone from Tehran, described the attack Sunday on the Shahrak Ekbatan apartment complex where they live as tantamount to a military invasion, with security forces shooting into windows and using stun grenades and tear gas. Videos posted on social media and statements by other residents corroborated their account. The couple asked not to be identified by name for fear of retribution from the authorities, who have cracked down hard on those engaged in the protests that erupted in late September when a young woman, Mahsa Amini, died in the custody of the morality police. The protesters are demanding an end to the Islamic Republic’s rule.
Comments: Iran To begin with, Iran is going to Qatar as the highest-ranked Asian team in the World Cup, representing the Asian Football Confederation. Currently ranked at number 20 globally, they find an experienced coach in Carlos Quieroz, who has managed the national team in the last two world cups (Brazil 2014, Russia 2018). Under Quieroz’s management, Iran was able to stop Argentina until the final minutes before Lionel Messi curved the ball to beat Iran 1-0 in 2014. Iran proved to be a challenging opponent for Argentina, who later cruised to the finals of the World Cup. Fast forward to Russia 2018, when Quieroz guided the team against Portugal. Cristiano Ronaldo’s decisive penalty got saved and a late penalty helped Iran finish the match with a 1-1 draw. They also faced Spain in that edition of the World Cup. This time, a series of uphill tasks awaits Iran after getting drawn into Group B alongside the US, England and Wales. The US vs Iran match is one of the most anticipated in the upcoming world cup, especially from the lens of history and contemporary politics. Quieroz and his team will also count on the Iranian fanbase that will travel to Qatar and support their national team at a time when the World Cup is being played in close proximity to Iran.
Comments: We all hope but reality is that this regime will not make it easy.
Comments: IRAN's steps and measures taken recently is an indication they are getting desperate. I hope no one gets executed and no one else dies...
