Comments: The Opta Predictions England have been predicted as overwhelming favourites to make it out of Group B at Qatar 2022, with our predictor giving them an 85.54% chance of progressing to the round of 16. The Three Lions’ chance of winning the group (63.02%) is the third highest at the tournament, with only Brazil (67.60%) and Argentina (69.27%) being rated higher. This is all despite England’s recent run of terrible form. They are winless in their last six games in all competitions (D3 L3), their longest run since April-June 1993 (also six). Worryingly for Gareth Southgate, this is their longest ever winless run going into a major tournament. However, England did set the best goal difference in the group stage of European qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, scoring 39 goals and conceding only three (+36). If they can rediscover their form in time for their opening game against Iran on 21 November, then they should progress far into the tournament. Captain Harry Kane finished as top scorer in the 2018 edition with six goals on the way to winning the Golden Boot – his form will be integral to any hope of success in this tournament. World Cup Group B Prediction England’s first opponents, Iran, have never progressed past the group stage in six previous attempts at a World Cup tournament. Our predictor gives them a 25.60% chance of doing so this time around – the lowest of all four teams in Group B. In the final round of Asian World Cup qualifiers, Iran conceded just four goals in 10 matches, so they’ll be difficult opponents to break down – not one that England will be looking forward to facing with their recent issues in attack. Iran have scored just nine goals in 15 FIFA World Cup matches; at 0.6, it’s the lowest goals-per-game ratio of any nation to play more than 10 games at the competition. This is a record they’ll undoubtedly have to improve if they are to make a shock progression to the last 16. The United States qualified for the 2022 World Cup, but flattered to deceive overall, finishing behind both Mexico and Canada in the CONCACAF qualification region. Gregg Berhalter will become the first person to represent USA at the FIFA World Cup as both a player and manager, with Berhalter making two appearances at World Cup 2002. That year, Berhalter and the U.S side achieved their best-ever finish at a World Cup since their semi-final finish in the first edition back in 1930, making the quarter-finals before an eventual defeat to finalists Germany. Can Berhalter lead USA into the knockout stages as a coach? Well, we give them a 46.77% chance of doing so – the second-highest ratio in Group B. This World Cup group is completed by Wales, who are playing in their first World Cup finals tournament since 1958. That 68-year gap is the largest between two appearances from a single nation in World Cup history. Back then, Wales reached the quarter-finals. If they are to replicate that feat this time around, you feel they will be reliant on big-game players such as Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey. Those two have been involved (scored or assisted) in nine of Wales’ 13 goals at the last two major tournaments they’ve played in (Euro 2016 and Euro 2020). Our predictor gives Wales a 42.09% chance of progressing to the last 16, but in facing the United States in the opening game, you feel that it could prove to be a winner-takes-all match for the two nations. My Opta Million Prediction After a great summer in 2021, where they lost out on their first-ever European championship title on penalties against Italy, and a semi-final knockout in the 2018 World Cup, many England fans expected Gareth Southgate’s side to go one better at the 2022 World Cup. But I fear that they’ll suffer the same fate as Germany in 2018, with a group stage exit. Southgate’s England team have struggled to look potent in attack across the last six months, and they’ll face a solid defensive unit in the form of Iran in the opening game – not the opponents you want to face on the back of a poor open-play scoring run. Fail to win that, then the second match against the United States looks even trickier before facing a Welsh side with a lot to prove. I predict disappointment for England in this tournament and a humiliating group stage exit, finishing third in the standings in Group B. I think the United States will capitalise, winning the group and progressing to the last 16 alongside Iran, whose defensive solidarity will see them grind out the results needed to make it out of Group B.
Comments: As I have done during the past 4 World Cups, I communicate to all contestants through this Board. I will provide next Match-Day games and ask everyone to make their predictions by certain time (usually by end of the day). I then enter them into my spreadsheet, and post it for everyone to view. after the games are played, I update the scoring table and post that as well, so everyone knows where they stand. So, everything is done through this board. We can start predicting the first round games, very shortly, starting this weekend.
Comments: I am posting again the rules of the World Cup Prediction contest. I will be asking to see who wants to participate and show off their football knowledge and skills in predicting games at the highest level. World Cup Prediction Contest rules: All contestants are to provide their predictions a day BEFORE the games start. Depending on the start of the games, the time of these deadlines may change. 1) The predictions should be posted on this Board for all to observe, approximately a day before the games begin; 2) Group Stage games are played during Match Day-1 thru 13. All games for a particular Match-Day should be posted at the same time. For example, on Match-Day 2, there are three games scheduled (IRAN vs. England; Wales vs. USA and Senegal vs. Netherlands). I need all three games predicted at the same time, and before the first game is played; 3) Contestants will earn points based on the accuracy of their prediction. The highest score one can earn from a single game is 6 points; 4) How to earn these points: i- If one correctly predicts the outcome of a game (Win by a team, Loss or Draw), they will earn 3 points; ii- One point is awarded for correctly predicting the # of Goals Team-A scores; iii- One point is awarded for correctly predicting the # of Goals Team-B scores; iv- One point is awarded for correctly predicting the # of Goal differences between the two teams; Example #1: let's say IRAN is playing USA and defeats them by the score of 2-0 (which is probably going to be my prediction :) In this case I get the full six points for that prediction. If someone else predicts an IRAN win of 1-0 over USA in the above example, they will earn 4 points (3 points for correctly predicting an IRAN win, and one more point for correctly predicting that USA scored "0" points against TM). Example #2: Let's say Argentina and Mexico draw 1-1. Someone predicted that Argentina will win against Mexico with the score of 2-1. In this case, this contestant will only be awarded 1 point for correctly predicting number of goals Mexico scored (1), and nothing more. Last Example: Let's say Croatia beats Canada with the score of 3-1. Someone predicted that win, but with a different score of 2-0. They will earn 3 points for the correct outcome (a win by Croatia), and another point for correctly guessing the # of Goal difference (which is 2), for a total of 4 points. I am sure there will be other questions, but after the first couple of Match-Days, everyone will be fully aware of the rules. Let me know if I can answer any questions.

Comments: I am all with you Zinsky. We have a wonderful chance to create an early upset in this World Cup. As you know, every World Cup has its major upsets. Four years ago, Korea beat Germany and Japan nearly beat Belgium (they were up 2-0, but lost 2-3) because they didn't play defensively). Also, IRAN tied Portugal and nearly Spain. Had that goal been allowed (and should have been), we would have finished in first place advancing, playing against 2nd place Russia. As you recall, just a few weeks prior to the World Cup, we played a friendly against Russia on their home soil and tied them 1-1. This means we could have beaten them, advancing to the round of 8!!! Also, England has a history of starting the World Cup games very slow and on shaky ground..., They play Iran as their first game and we could take full advantage of that.
Comments: Faramarz JAn, Back to the Prediction contest; I used to email Gorbi the updated scoring Excel spreadsheet after every Game-Day, and he used to post it with complete formatting that was nice. When I tried to do so, I could not get the format to stay on the post, for some reason. Unless you can show me how to do that, I will do the same, which means I need your email address somehow (discretely, obviously).
Comments: Can’t disagree with all that. My main concern is the expectation from the team. I think even CQ thinks we should play more offensive games. I don’t mind that at all but makes me nervous. If we play a decent game against England, which I don’t consider that good, we might have a chance.
Comments: Faramarz and Zinsky, The $16.7B spent came primarily from Corporations and private investors ($Billionaires), that expect the Republicans award them with votes going their way with less taxes (as trumpet did), and more subsidy money, as Bush did. The analysis found Republicans have outspent Democrats when it comes to federal candidates and political committees this midterm election cycle. Republican spending amounted to $4.6 billion, compared to Democrats’ $3.9 billion.
Comments: Zinsky, I saw an article about IRAN's chances yesterday that was very short but interesting. It simply said that IRAN "Should" advance this year, however recent political distractions will probably prevent them from doing so. It is unfortunate if that were to be the case. This is really our year for IRAN to for the first time advance to the second round for the following simple reasons: 1- IRAN simply has the best talents it ever had; with most high-level players playing at the best teams; 2- We have a really good group also. Granted England is one of the very best teams on the planet (at least on paper), and is ranked 5th overall to win the Cup. If this is true, they should win all three games and advance, leaving the 2nd spot up for grab. This means no other team will gain a point against them, making it an advantage for IRAN; 3- We are playing in our neighboring country Qatar, which should make our fan presence easier and higher. They also happen to be one of the only Arab countries that is friendly to IRAN; 4- and finally, we were able to bring CQ back; So for all the reasons above, I believe this was our year to shine in the World stage. But with all the issues going on back home, it caused so many distractions in our players' minds that I no longer believe we will be playing to our full potential. This will be very sad indeed. Mind you, I wished for this kind of uprising and hopefully change at home forever...; I am just to see it happening a few weeks before the World Cup, that ended up taking any legitimate chances we have to advance, away from our talented and deserving team.

Another twist is that out of those 37 million voters, nearly 80% or more would have voted one way or another no matter what. So, the money was spent to change the mind of less than 7 million voters. Where does the money come from? What is it used for? Who are they buying with their money? We know the answers...

Comments: کیروش آچار فرانسه اسکوچیچ را خط میزند! خبرورزشی نوشت: شاید تا ساعاتی دیگر و شاید هم در یکی دو روز آینده لیست تیم ملی از سوی کارلوس کیروش اعلام شود. مهلت کارلوس کیروش و فدراسیون فوتبال برای ارسال اسامی به فیفا ۲۳ آبان است و جالب اینکه در این روز تیم ملی عازم دوحه میشود و شاید به همین خاطر اسامی ۲۶ بازیکن نهایی تیم ملی ۲۲ آبان اعلام شود. یکی از بازیکنانی که در خطر خط خوردن از تیم ملی است امید نورافکن است. بازیکن تیم سپاهان. این بازیکن در دوره اسکوچیچ آچار فرانسه تیم ملی بشمار میرفته؛ بطوریکه مربی کروات در یکی دو مسابقه از او در پست مدافع میانی هم بهره برد که این تصمیم با حواشی زیادی همراه بود. به نظر میرسد یکی از گزینه ای اصلی کارلوس کیروش برا ی جناح چپ خط دفاعی ابوالفضل جلالی باشد به این خاطر که هم در بازی با اروگوئه در ترکیب ثابت تیم ملی به میدان آمد و هم در بازی با نیکاراگوئه. حضور احسان حاج صفی هم در لیست نهایی تیم ملی قطعی است و طبیعتا در چنین شرایطی از بین میلاد محمدی و امید نورافکن یکی باید خط بخورد که احتمالا این بازیکن امید نورافکن است.
